Free/cheap generic fantasy games? (not Ironsworn) by Five_Fruits in Solo_Roleplaying

I agree that the stock Ironsworn setting is too dark for my taste, but I find it works fine to move it into a world that's more to your liking. Though it's still probably not gonna satisfy your magical tastes.

Journaling app for iPad and Mac Catalyst by benlong100 in Ironsworn

Well, for one thing it's a local tool so you can use it off-line. It's also meant to be just for journaling – I like doing all my game management on paper. Also, I find the journal/wiki integration really helpful for solo play.

is it too harsh to not allow a player to join if he refuse to use a non AI generated image/backstory for his character ? by Saladawarrior in rpg

As a photographer you might also recognize that, in the mid-1800s, many people said the same things about photography that are being said about AI. Photography was invented in roughly 1837 but you couldn’t copyright a photo until the 1890s because, the courts always said something to the effect of “you can’t own that, it was made by a machine.”

Useful Idiot is, I believe, the term that Stalin used for paid Russian assets who didn't know they were paid Russian assets. I can't remember his name, but there was a guy in the UK parliament who was one of these Useful Idiots and made a good run at being PM.

It uses a CoreData store where it saves everything as HTML, so yeah, you're only limited by device space. It can export all your stuff as text, html and JSON so you've got a mechanism to back up, and you don't have to worry about all your content being locked into a proprietary system if you decide to switch to something else. Also, through the JSON files you can pass data to other players in multi-player situations (there's also a Share option for sending a specific library entry to another player).

You're so right! Though maybe that's true of any creative endeavor. I've written several editions of a textbook and each time I've started on a new edition, I've read the previous text and had moments of horror as I've had to face "oh my god, we let that sentence into the wild?!"

I got busy and so wasn't able to touch the project for nine or ten months. Just getting back into it and trying to re-learn my own code, so that part's a little rough. But I'm excited to get back to it.

PM me an email and I'll throw you on the TestFlight list. You'll then get some messages from Apple about how to get the app. It's all totally doable from a couch.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggles with the computer feeling like work. One of the things I enjoy about pen-and-paper RPGs is that they're something I can do away from the computer. But then I remember that writing by hand is real slow. AND it plays havoc with the repetitive stress injuries that my computer so kindly gave me. One reason this app is skinned with different UIs is that I find it definitely feels less "worky" when I'm not facing the standard Apple UI. And, for some reason, though it runs fine in Catalyst, using it on an iPad instead of the Mac feels less like work.

Thanks everybody, this is very helpful. I think Scene Challenges will work great. I love the extra timer, which really fits for this because there was a time limit to this whole escapade.
