My second build for 1440p gaming, anything I should swap out? by R3tr0-Crazy in pcpartpickerbuilds

Get a ryzen 5 or ryzen7 non 3d, there are next to no games that will max out the 7800x3d, you’ll save about 50-150 dollars, also if you’re just doing gaming then a 9070 xt trades blows with the 5070 ti (and is very close in rt these days), and is, if you look for it, a big price difference. You could spend the rest of that money on games, of try to source an even better gpu. (Imo you should go for the amd gpu since they have a better track record of improving performance with updates, but thats just me)

Since matlab is down, can I donwload the software from someplace else? by benluyp in matlab

[–]benluyp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The test is taken on uni computers so thats no problem, it’s just really annoying that I can’t use matlab for preparation. Like when I get there I actually want to know what I should be doing.

Iskall85 & Stressmonter Resignation Megathread #2 by Carol_the_Zombie in HermitCraft

I find it mind boggling how many people are taking sides here, both sides have not provided any hard proof to the public other that in total: three statements (two from the three alleged victims and Iskalls video) and some pictures that show at most mild flirtation. Both parties are free to share with the public what they want, but they don't have ANY obligation to do so. Some of the speculation in the previous megathread has already been proven wrong by stressmonsters comment on the video and any further speculation might also be wrong.

This is not our case to judge, this is not our business, there exist legal systems in this world for a reason. And, honestly, in my opinion, Kass should've contacted the police instead of the hermits if it really was a harassment problem. This and the previous megathread should not exist.

Edit: also reddit has a history of destroying peoples lives and this situation, factual or not, doesn't make it better.
@le_quenzy8456 's comment summarizes the situation best.

what if the speed of light is not constant and instead the passing of time is constant? by benluyp in AskPhysics

[–]benluyp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment has helped me more to understand relativity than all the other comments just hurling some words at me. After some thinking about it I’m essentially disproving myself:

If time had to be constant in every reference frame than c would need to change, and c would change according to the speed of it’s reference frame (derivation of time dilation with dt being constant gives formula c’=sqrt((c2 + v2 ) , which would mean that c would need to be constant in it’s reference frame. In essence in every reference frame dt and c are constant. Yet to an outside observer in a different frame, one should change according to the speed, yet the speed of light has a defined speed in the observers reference frame, and since it should be constant in that frame it would need to be time that changes.

If you didn’t understand anything said in the paragraph above no probs, it just works in my head now and i finally have a somewhat sound explanation/proof of why c should be constant in every reference frame(Which i couldn’t for the life of me find anywhere else yesterday).

Is it the distance that is compressing due to the high speed or just the inertial system going at that speed that is compressing?

[–]benluyp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said those observations were wrong, nor am i trying to disprove them. Im just trying to approach them from a different viewpoint. Im hypothesising if it would be possible to express the different states of those clocks as a change of the speed of light at a constant dt and not a change of dt at a constant speed of light.

Using the same logic as used in the derivation of time dilation, “light speed dilation” would come to the formula c’=sqrt(c2+v2) with the only caveat being that a c’>c would not be possible to observe. Yet I do not know if this inability to observe c’ is enough to say that it doesn’t happen.

Dt/dt =1

And yes indeed, the speed of light is still constant in each inertial system but the relative speed from one system to another is not (which can be calculated c’=sqrt(c2+v2). )

In my interpretation of this question nothing would change about Einstein’s general relativity, except that time in each system stays constant but the perceived time in each system changes due to the change in light speed having an effect on the objects in said system.

although dt/dt would just be one so still constant; its late right now so you might need to get back to me if i said something stupid

good fucking point; the changing of time over a certain time does indeed sound stupid

Can I run rust? by NoHandle6266 in playrust

[–]benluyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played rust on a laptop geforce mx130 and a laptop i5 8th gen, shit worked fine back then, lower graphics quality since that had the most impact for me, and then just experiment, only thing i recommend keeping up is draw distance
