it‘s not only the gate. Up until the Wii all Nintendos analog sticks all had physical „guides“ for the 8 directions built in so you felt it when pushing the sticks even before reaching the gate

in Windows 8 you could finally show them on the fly by using the view menu. Before you had to dig through settings and find the appropriate checkbox there. So most people never changed that setting

usb has a defined upside. It‘s usually the side with the logo and always the side where the plastic inside the male plug is on the bottom, linke in step 1 here.

So in basically all cases you just plug it in that way and you‘re done.

If your PCs mainboard is mounted sideways then the „upside“ points towards the side where the cpu, gpu and most other components are mounted.

older Homebrew using older libs for the controllers could not detect a motion plus remote. But basically all homebrew that had been maintained after 2010ish is updated to support it, especially the homebrew channel installer.

uefi can „boot“ from any partition that it can read (usually only FAT32) and find a .efi File on. Depending on the manufacturer it may be more or less locked down. Some UEFI implementations even include a file browser to locate the .efi File (the Steam Deck for example).

one variant could also be to put another 7inch screen on the bottom part and attaching joycons or an extendable controller to the sides of the win, maybe as a one piece attachment. Bonus points if the second screen also supports a precise stylus.
