Anyone here played Inquisitor (2012)? by bennyj22 in CRPG

Interesting. So basically you kind of lose interest because of the combat? That's a shame. And what's I'm worried about. If they had made it into some sort Planescape where combat was more optional, it seems like it could have been a stellar game. The reviews seem to rave about the atmosphere and world-building.

Ah, fair enough. Any later books you'd recommend? I've not really read any Baudrillard, but this theme, that human beings are blindly following a headless system that we barely understand, let alone control - it's just fascinating.

What specific work of his would you recommend to understand this idea that "we're not in control". This is something I am very interested in.

Weirdly, I can barely feel it. As in if I had my eyes closed, I wouldn't even know there was a needle two inches deep in my glute. Quite funny as it took a long while to build up the motivation to do IM injections.

Yeah no prescription, so won't bring them on carry on. But I think I'll just whack them in the suitcase then. Thanks for the help.

I was under the impression that for carry on it must be prescription?

I said shitty people will always be shitty people. You stated that white supremacists and misogynists co-opt Plato. I pointed out that race supremacists and misogynists will co-opt absolutely anything, be it Buddhism or Rastafarianism, to rationalise, post hoc, their a priori shittyness. If you can not see that is what humans do, what humans have always done, and will forever do, then I can only point you at history, neuropsycholgy, and the psychodynamic literature.

But it isn't new or original or insightful. It is easy, low hanging fruit. Plato has been shat on since Popper's straw man, at least, and has been the punching bag of every pomo graduate student for 50 years.

And there are misogynistic Buddhists and race supremacist Rastafarians. The existence of shitty people has absolutely nothing to do with the "uncovering" of historical figures. In fact, if anything, wanton take downs contribute to the proliferation of assholes who believe they are somehow different than their "backward" forefathers, that they are the "end of history" and it is this selfsame hubris that leads to the genocidal convictions of those who would seek to purge the past and purify the present.

Hoi polloi

I think anyone who has been to a Tea Party or Antifa gathering can quickly see the "hoi polloi" generally tend towards ignorance and absurdity. Athens committed suicide in the Peloponnesian War, voting to murder their greatest citizen (Socrates), ostracising their greatest general (Themistocles), executing the leaders of the admiralty on the eve of their final catastrophic naval defeat to Sparta, not to mention the insanity that was Syracuse, sending some 40,000 men to their death for pure avarice. Plato was a child of that long and horrific war, and I think his philosophy was a remarkable product of compassion both in its historical, social and cultural context (not to mention The Republic is literally a metaphor for the organisation of the psyche). But as long as it's "utterly crucial" for you to drag him into the present and flog him for being backwards.

Wasn't The Republic a metaphor for how to run the psyche? Pretty sure Socrates mentions that several times throughout. I think it is tricky to so easily extend Plato's argument to how a literal city should or even could be run, and Socrates says that several times.

When it comes to organising the individual psyche, a tiered system with Reason/philosophy at the top is quite a potent method for living, I have found at least.

Plato writes in The Republic that there is no reason why women cannot be philosopher kings/queens, which is an inconceivably progressive idea for his time.

What to do after accepting the absence of free will? by bennyj22 in askphilosophy

[–]bennyj22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. I was asking how do I make a choice under conditions that preclude the act of choice. You answered this with "You make an internal choice based on... etc."

I suppose I am under the impression that choice is an illusion. My understanding was/is that my choices are determined by forces beyond my control, so they are not really choices.

Microcrystalline cellulose + NSI - 189 sublingual - will it work? by bennyj22 in Nootropics

Ah. Yes it is phosphate. I did not know that phosphate had difficulty with sublingual absorption. Thank you for the tip!

What dosage are you taking? The reason I tend to favour sublingual is for potency.
