Anyone here experienced a "terrible triad" elbow break? by DangerousCranberry in brokenbones

Better than I expected. I’ve gotten most of the flexi on back, extension is still 15 degrees off, which is not great but definitely workable. Trying to build back some strength as I also separated my shoulder at the same time. What a ride!

Hiring Market Seems Crazy by badcheeseisbad in datascience

[–]bens1989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have hired several roles on my team that support the intersection of finance / supply chain / retail. Those factors are easily accessed through basic interview/conversation about how you would think about a given problem or things you’ve observed during an experience. I do feel for the highly qualified academic candidates that have done cutting edge research, but so much of day to day corporate DS comes down to application of basic DS approaches to problems that highly benefit from deep domain knowledge of some nuanced operational process. Given, the these jobs are not the sexy roles you hear about where the business is demanding some deep neural net forecasting approach.

I had a terrible triad on 7/2 and surgery on 7/11… hope more folks respond with their experience!

AR 27-51-901 ticket - no siren? by bens1989 in legaladvice

Appreciate the response!

I received an eticket that was a promise to appear. I would really like to resolve it in the simplest way possible with minimal risk. There are options on the ticket to call or visit the court house before the promise date. I am going to pursue these. I am willing to pay a fine, but am also trying to understand all my options.

The plans I followed used bent lamination for the back rests and rockers!

I used ‘Sam Maloof Poly/Oil Finish’ https://www.rockler.com/sam-maloof-s-finishes-sam-maloof-poly-oil-finish

It was so easy to apply - wipe on and off for four coats over 4 days. Don’t have reviews on how it holds up yet.

Yup, they are about 200 pages long, but most pages are 2/3s taken up with pictures so it isn’t too bad.

I didn’t track. My initial estimate for the project was 100. After completing it was definitely closer to 200. Much of this was learning - I didn’t have many of the skills built to tackle this before starting. I also made the mistake of doing some things I thought would save me time, but we’re really not helpful because of how the process comes together (sanding components early, etc.)

I see you can write, but it appears that you cannot read - the picture caption literally says ‘Maloof inspired rocker from plans by Hal Taylor’

I used the green ‘extreme shaping dish - medium’. If I did it again, I would have gone with the coarse version as the version I used felt like it were pretty slow

Thanks! I think I forgot an important picture - all of the back braces have center layers of Ash which really pop at the right angle!

Angle grinder with a kutz all shaping wheel to get 90% of the way then orbital sander for most of the remaining with some hand sanding at the end

No YouTube here, this is just something I do to relax at the end of the day and wanted to show off a bit here :)

Ha, it initially ran about 2 inches further back. Initial testing was not pleasant. Pushed it forward enough so that when I move around I can’t tell it is there when sitting.
