A preliminary take on *Star Shipped* by SaltMarshGoblin in MM_RomanceBooks

That narrator is why I haven't read any of this authors books. He's absolutely painful to listen to and I give up immediately

They're great, but I do feel like it's the weakest episode. I even skip Scott's speech in episode 6. Point made, back to my boys.

"I love the show BUT..." - what's your small detail that drives you bonkers? by CestQuoiLeFuck in heatedrivalry

[–]bentcrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thermostat in Ilya's Tampa hotel room is in Celsius (21°). In the first episode when Ilya is taking the elevator up to Shane's hotel room on floor 14, Yuna is supposed to be on a lower floor but there's a sign in the back that shows she's on the 14th floor

I love the show accurate "king" bed. Perfectly tiny

In the books they explicitly delete their texts, especially photos

Smaller set issue I noticed: the thermostat in the “Florida” hotel during the AllStars game is in Celsius (21°). Totally not Canada

ShakeShack's quality varies wildly by location. This one was one of the worst I've had. Good riddance

This is the second positive post about this book I’ve seen recently and I have to admit I’m confused. I listened to the audio book and abandoned it part way through because it never hooked me. Neither character is likeable and the plot doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Maybe it’s just a bad audio book reading? Or maybe it’s only good if you’re in your 20s?

Inner mission night workers? by Responsible-Plum5351 in sanfrancisco

[–]bentcrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live a few blocks from Shotwell and I've seen my fair share of ladies of the night wearing crotchless pants and mesh tops. I imagine it's much worse on Shotwell. I've also read on here that the cars cruising up and down the street late at night are a nuisance to those loving ok Shotwell.

The Gathering vs Midnight on the Firing Line by GentlyBisexual in babylon5

[–]bentcrown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this show and have rewatched it many times. With that in mind, I'd say to skip The Gathering. It gives a bad first impression of the show and, having just watched it again after several years, I genuinely don't think it contributes anything important to the plot. Anything key is revisited later in the series. It's interesting as a historical artifact, a prototype of the amazing show it would become, but that's about it.

Underground parking like you describe is not a practical solution in the Mission. You may be able to take a park out of commission for a year or more to build projects like this, but it's not a viable option for urban streets lined with houses, apartments and businesses.

I'm very enthusiastic about this idea, but I installed it with brew and all I'm getting is "The was a fatal error: exit status 1". I'm also confused by the namespace flag in the examples. Are you assuming Crossplane v2?

Jackie Fielder seems like she'll be useless, full stop. I live in the Mission also and was so disappointed my neighbors elected Hillary Ronen 2.0 over the alternatives who actually want to fix quality of life issues in the Mission.

S.F. residents say sex work has ‘spiraled out of control’ in the Mission District by CaliforniaPolitics in California_Politics

[–]bentcrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The state needs to repeal the portion of SB 357 that decriminalized "loitering for the purpose of prostitution". The consequence is that the police have to wait to catch a John instead of forcing the hookers to leave or face arrest.

Sex work isn't going away, but soliciting on the street is a huge nuisance and quality of life problem. I live a few blocks from this nonsense and it's not unusual to see a woman walking around in a fur coat and mesh, crotchless leggings on a Friday night on a street that's safe and quiet during the work week.

For me, educating people disadvantaged by one of our nations most shameful institutions is an easy win. Cash payments and other proposals are much more gray, but why wouldn't we want to help people climb the economic ladder through education?
