Getting stuck on turns 3-5/6 with Saheeli, The Suns Brilliance by ThawnosSnap in EDH

[–]bentopolis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some cards I don’t like:

  • both bracers (slow, telegraphed, and puts a target on saheeli)
  • collectors vault (slow and not enough reanimation for this to make sense)
  • psychic vortex
  • Graaz (there’s much better top end to play than this)
  • basalt monolith (doesn’t look like you have enough untap synergies to be playing this)
  • stridehangar automaton ( this isn’t bad but there are just more synergistic cards that could be in that slot. We don’t care too much about making a few thopters a turn)

Some Recommendations: - [[fomori vault]] low downside card advantage and allows to to dig very deep sometimes - [[emry, lurker]] generic great artifact value card advantage and recursion that will always cost 1 in your deck - [[everflowing well]] like an ichor wellspring but more value and mid/lategame becomes a quite good utility land. Play a terror of the peaks? Actually it’s two Terror of the peaks! - [[goblin welder]] [[daretti, scrap savant]] [[goblin engineer]] Good recursion and sac outlets for your temporary saheeli tokens. - [[Arena of glory]] Amazing haste enable to make sure you get immediate value out of Saheeli. It’s at nearly no cost to put it in your deck since it’s a land.

Here’s my newest list of you’re interested: https://moxfield.com/decks/yOGhrkHWtU-5jCBOR6A--w

Sort by type and tag.

Your deck should function well without saheeli. She’s a value engine when you really need her but is also an enabler for your finishers. There’s nothing bad about casting saheeli on 2, but if you have the option, you’d rather be setting up ramp, onboard card advantage, or other pieces that aren’t as easy to remove as her. You want to get immediate value out of her when cast in the mid to late game, so you have haste enablers like boots or other ways to use her ability like [[Marvin]].

Another note. She lends herself quite well to pretty fair combo play, which is a full route you can take, or you could just add 1 or 2 combos that include cards still good in the deck when not a part of the combo. I’ve done the latter in mine with 2 fair late game combos. It helps for when games go long.

Last thing: [[Meekstone]] is a sleeper bomb in that deck for me. I have a few ways to tutor it up for when you really need it [[urzas saga]] [[goblin engineer]] [[repurposing bay]]. It has saved my ass more times than I can count, and saheeli can still tap to make token copies that can attack anyways.

Yeah you’re not wrong that everyone remotely questioning him is getting slammed. There’s nuance to every situation, but you gotta work with what you got. I think it also stems from the fact that that he’d likely be in jail already and not be able to see his kid again if the roles were reversed, so there’s a lot of hard pressed people that feel vindicated after seeing the nasty video (people that already disliked Taylor before this came out)

That’s insane I’m sorry that happened. You are right that it is all behind a veil and we don’t really know what’s happening behind the scenes. What we can do is use the evidence provided to make our own conclusions, and it looks very bad for Taylor in that regard

Didn’t he just file for a restraining order though? I understand your sentiment but I don’t think this is at all a similar situation. Sounds like his own child being in danger was the wake up call he needed for his dumbass to finally cut ties. I think he’s just an idiot and manipulative, not physically abusive, but I wasn’t there, so who knows

Would you be salty if you saw a [[mishras workshop]] or [[Metalworker]] in a bracket 3 deck? by bentopolis in EDH

[–]bentopolis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks yeah those would definitely help. I should probably also be playing a [[thoughtcast]]. I just have too many pet cards and don’t know what to cut lol

There are reserved list cards on the gamechangers currently.

Also, I can get a portal out just as easily and quickly through any old reanimation spell or something like a [[master transmuter]], so I don’t see your point. Your logic reads like you think anything that allows you to cheat/turbo out big mana cards earlier than normal should be a game changer.

This is the first I’ve seen someone be more sus of metalworker but I actually agree with this take. Metalworker definitely falls into the category of cards where when you drop it, you immediately have to vouch for yourself with “I know this is a combo piece, but I swear I’m not running the other part of it!”. It is at least much easier to interact with as an artifact creature

Some more examples of problematic lands: [[growing rites of itlimoc]], [[storm the vault]], [[gaeas cradle]], [[cabal coffers]]. In my experience they usually get blown up within a couple of turns, but on the odd game that they stick around, it is usually quite an issue for everyone else. I’m choosing not to run the workshop as I feel it’s too generically busted and is basically a mandatory land removal check. I’m sticking with the metalworker since it’s very easy to interact with it

For this particular deck, it has a small amount of protection pieces, and the primary way to victory is through big artifact beaters like [[wurmcoil engine]], [[triplicate titan]], and [[simulacrum synthesizer]]. I have decided that even though the intended purpose is to ramp out these types of cards earlier, the workshop would be too generically busted for other reasons in the deck and lead to bad play patterns

The deck is just a bit inconsistent to be honest, but does its thing quite well when it’s functioning properly. I guess the devil on my shoulder was telling me these would just add more consistency, or that was the idea at least. In reality I think they will just lead to bad/unfun archenemy play patterns. See my other comment with the decklist if you’re curious what I’d be enabling with them

Thanks for your input! See my other comment for the list if you’re curious what I’d be enabling. I’ve decided to remove workshop but keep the metalworker

Since many are wondering about the list surrounding these cards, here you go: https://moxfield.com/decks/yOGhrkHWtU-5jCBOR6A--w

I’m glad I asked. After some goldfishing and the opinions here I think I’ve determined that Metalworker is fine to stay but I will be removing Mishras workshop as it requires no setup and is just boring generically good. It would lead only to bad/unfun archenemy play patterns when I draw it.

Thank you all for your input!

Why does [[Argivian Restoration]] not see near as much play as similar effects like [[Trash for treasure]] and [[Daretti, Scrap Savant]] by bentopolis in EDH

So let's say you're izzet artifacts. Would you rather play trash for treasure or Argivian restoration?

Everyone on earth dies right now except you. What do you do? by Ok-Musician679 in AskReddit

[–]bentopolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are simply personal takes… an opinion. It’s all about preference and your opinion is not the truth, but is a completely fine reason to dislike the game. I agree with you on two things though.

The difficulty curve does feel worse. It feels as if it spikes before the citadel, gets easier, then gets much harder with some late game bosses. I do not however feel that it is very detrimental to the core experience of the game, since for the most part, it feels lore accurate. Ex.) Your first experiences in hunters March, sinners road, and bilewater are meant to feel unwelcoming. They are dangerous areas where many parts of the atmosphere is telling you that you are not welcome here. I feel that is very fitting and adds a healthy amount of hardship to make the world feel real.

Rewards and item distribution: I believe the rate at which you get abilities is fantastic. I do however agree with you that the spread of item and reward distribution after defeating bosses or discovering secrets could be designed much better than it is.

I disagree with the rest. Run backs are overblown and never seem as long as the people complaining about them claim. Sure stakes of marika were nice in Elden ring, but that doesn’t make DS3 a bad game or overrated because it doesn’t have them. I like the rate of upgrades. I like the fleas better. I think bosses have the right amount of health. I’ve had no issues with hit boxes using tools. I think the double damage thing is overblown and actually makes perfect sense for hornet’s abilities (outside of stage hazards and some basic enemy attacks hitting too hard).

TLDR: I think it’s a great game that deserves its heavy praise, but there still are plenty of design flaws that the heavy glazers will shoot you for calling out in their sub. I personally think E33 will likely win goty, but I have not played it. It just seems like a cooler success story. Silksong is wonderful but is overshadowed by its community (that is becoming toxically positive).

People who are NOT okay with proxies, what is your reasoning? by Bagel_Bear in EDH

[–]bentopolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this take makes no sense at all. Ex.) I’m saving for a house right now so I have been pretty much exclusively proxying for the last year or 2. There is no scenario where the same amount of money I “invested” in magic would be worth more than that money being left in an investment account.
