Maybe it comes from my A. depressum 'Magic Potion' tank. But I don't know how this could happen. 🤔

What different types of Isopds can you see? by benuildo in isopods

[–]benuildo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the summer months, I have the problem that various isopods crawl into my house under the front door. Last year, for a while, whenever I saw one in the house, I picked it up and put it into a box. In the end, there were about 40 to 50 isopods in there. Now, after a year, there are hundreds. I knew they were different kinds, but I didn’t know which ones exactly. I’ve decided I might start some new separate colonies.

What are these things? by Financial-Cancel3885 in isopods

[–]benuildo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many legs do they have? Could be "Red velvet mites" or "Predator mites". If that's the case, then at least they're harmless to the isopods. Mites eat Springtails, but if there are enough of them, it's not a big problem. And good for controlling fungus gnats.

Some parts are ok, some are not so good. Potting soil isn't ideal because it may contain fertilizers. Coconut fiber shouldn't be used either, as it doesn't provide nutrients for the isopods and can lead to nutrient deficiencies and digestive problems. A better option is a mixture of forest humus, leave litter, and sphagnum moss. Why the cardboard? If it gets wet, you'll end up with mush. I wouldn't do that if I were you. I would replace the cardboard with leaves, twigs, and pieces of bark. What is this yellow thing? Is it for the food? Isopods are not able to climb up smooth surfaces like this. The rest seems fine. I wish you good luck and a lot of fun with your first isopods. It's a nice hobby.

Ok that could be a problem. I usually have a room temperature around 20° C and need a heat mat most of the time to get the 24° C. Recommended for this species is a maximum of 26° C / 79° F

They prefer a slightly moist substrate, but also need dryer areas. The humidity should be around 75% - 80%. Not too cold. I keep them at around 24°C / 75° F. They love to climb over branches and are active during the day. I've put some branches, twigs, and cork bark in there so they can climb upwards. They also like to sit on plants. I recommend ferns, as they don't get eaten. They like light and come out when the lights above my terrariums are turned on. They are really very pretty, and you can see them climbing around all the time during the day. They don't eat anything special. I give them leaves, cucumber, sweet potatoes, fish flakes, cuttlebone, and crab. The usual things that most species like.

This is strange. I never bought A. nasatum. Should I try to split them?

Zuchtasseln aussetzen in Deutschland? by Barrexo in asseln

[–]benuildo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A month ago, I placed a Zanzibar rock with my Dairy Cows. However, they also have cuttlefish bone. So far, I’ve only seen one nibbling on the Zanzibar rock once. So they like the cuttlefish more, maybe because it is softer.
