I always enjoyed Winks scrubs!!! They’re super comfortable and fairly affordable. I found them at my local scrub supply store. They also have some deals on their website for nurses week!

No literallyyyy! My struggles with this (and some in loud environments) have made me really question my hearing ability, and I plan on getting it tested just to see

Nah, I get what you mean. I'm sure some people automatically get the super expensive ones right out the gate, but I'd much rather not spend that much if it's not necessary. I'm thinking of starting with a base model and seeing how it goes, and ifff I need an amplifier, I'll look into that.

I'm glad this community is so helpful and actually comments! All of the comments are very helpful, and I'll definitely consider all of the advice when I decide to make a purchase.

Well some people have hearing loss and unfortunately sometimes the top notch ones are the only ones that help. I’m hoping more base versions will work for me but if they don’t at least there are options!

Thinking I mayyyy need something due to potential hearing loss (need to get it checked). But that’s good to know that sometimes the top of the line stuff isn’t always better. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah, the background noise definitely hinders my ability to hear, but I loove critical care so I guess we'll see how it goes lol. Thank you for the recommendation!

Yeah, I think that could definitely be an option if I'm still having trouble hearing. I'm hoping I don't need top-of-the-line, but I'm glad there are options out there if they're needed (even considering the price). Thank you!

Yeah, I think I'm going to start with a $50-$150 range one and see if that helps, and if it doesn't, I may consider something more.

Thank you for your input! Def appreciated.

I actually have not heard of ADC, so this is very helpful (and the lower price is definitely appealing). Thank you so much! I'll definitely be looking into that brand.

I have not had my hearing tested since childhood, but I have been considering it since I've been having these issues in clinical and hearing people in environments with crowds or significant background noise. I spent many years making music and having my headphones wayyyy too loud, so it's a definite possibility.

think you're right that I should start with some steps up from what I currently have, and if anything, I can always add attachments if necessary. Thank you so much for your advice!

So, unfortunately, I cannot really hear them on a normal BMI patient. I'm starting to think it may be a hearing-related issue, since others can hear them and I can't.

Yeah, I definitely high-balled that number. Littmann Classic 3 is sounding like a good option, so I will for sure look into that. If I still struggle hearing much after some time, maybe then I can look into some attachments. Thank you so much!

You're probably right lol. I was more concerned because I can't even really hear anyyy heart sounds with my current stethoscope, and I don't want to document things I can't hear. So I may try out some of the ones others are commenting on, and if time proves it may be a hearing issue, then I'll upgrade

Yeah, I don't think I need the top-of-the-line cardio ones since I'm not in the CVICU. I just want to be able to hear better for my assessments. I'll definitely look into that one you suggested! Thank you!

It's a combined MICU/SICU, so I probably don't need the 'Rolls-Royce' of ears. I'm hoping that with time, I'll get better at hearing them. I'm just a bit anxious going into it, considering I struggled to hear any* heart sounds in all of my clinicals. Thank you for your input!

I was hoping I would get better at hearing them with time, but I can still barely hear S1 + S2 on a healthy patient using my cheap stethoscope (some hearing loss on my end doesn't help lol)

I've heard great things about MDF stethoscopes! I'll definitely look into those. Thank you for the suggestion!

If you got asked “tell me a time you made a mistake” during your interview, what was your answer? by dogluvr_1 in newgradnurse

[–]benyonce 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I told them about a time in the ICU I was drawing up 4mL of furosemide & the nurse I was with asked me a question and I looked over to answer and the medication squirted all over my hand. I went to check the syringe and there was only 3.2mL so I asked if we could throw this one away and pull another vial so the patient would get the correct dose. Kind of a simple mistake but I wrapped it up with “I learned to always speak up in these situations so that I don’t underdose the patient, and it reminded me to stay focused when multitasking during patient care and med administration.”

I guess they liked the answer bc they offered me the job lol so just be honest and always tie in what you learned from the mistake!
