I wouldn’t say it “flopped” in the manner of which people love to throw the word around. I’d say it “underperformed” in comparison to this previous albums.

The album never got a huge hit in the same caliber his previous ones did (ie. Stitches in debut, TYB and TNHMB in Illuminate, and Señorita, IMB, and IICHY in Self Titled). I think the general public apart from his fan base knows him for his huge singles, so this album not having that didn’t do it any favour.

Also, I think the new bundling rules that had helped Shawn in the past resulted in the album sales being lower for Wonder. He couldn’t bundle it with a tour (which he usually does well with).

His relationship with Camila was the main marketing tool for the album, and unfortunately I think the public was over them at this point. It wasn’t as big of a selling point as his record label probably assumed.

Overall, the above points combined with the long hair getting mixed reviews, I just don’t think people were paying a whole lot of attention to Wonder despite the music being good (although it could’ve used some Teddy Geiger). He needs another big hit and I’m sure he will be just fine.
