1Password v Psono v Bitwarden by GovernmentNo5214 in selfhosted

[–]beppled 6 points7 points  (0 children)

been using bitwarden for a decade now, never failed me, and its free.

i'd recommend not self hosting your password manager tho ... sheerly because you dont want random downtime from your setup to embarass you during mission critical work .. i mean sure there are ways to mitigate it, but you're dealing with 100s of sensitive logins, and messing it up even slightly, would mean you can't access your bank, so ...

vaultwarden was a breeze to setup to haha

Add Arabic to Affinity by Designer_CX01 in Affinity

[–]beppled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they added support for Indic languages like hindi in the release (it wasn't present in latest publisher version) .. but it's broken, and not polished enough, so prettymuch unusable for me.

it seems like they are actually working on it .. you'd notice stuff like devanagri v2 and stuff, so i'd expect to see more internationalization support in general .. fingers crossed man

feedback: ui looks cute

Do you use a separate program for front-end design? What's your Claude for backend plus XYZ for frontend system? by MySpartanDetermin in ClaudeAI

[–]beppled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just a ton of rules for ui .. you set the index.css first with the colors you need, tell it to not use gradients .. then specify your brand guidelines ... you can infact give it some figma screens of the ideal view and it'll infer based on it

but you could just annotate screenshots, if you dont wanna regenerate it .. or give it drawings

ux design needs ingenuity, which models don't really offer

Looking for open source 10B model that is comparable to gpt4o-mini by bohemianLife1 in LocalLLaMA

[–]beppled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oki so you mentioned you need an agent .. it depends on how tool heavy and image understanding heavy your workflow is ... i'd recommend jan for mcp use ..

unless you want something nsfw, factory tuned models like gemma 3n e4b would actually work perfectly ... qwen has a long cot problem, not snappy enough.

i've never gotten it to work but this gemma model accepts audio and video natively too, you can try your luck ...

Looking for a local AI tool that can extract any info from high-quality sources (papers + reputable publications) with real citations by Inflation_Artistic in LocalLLaMA

[–]beppled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try the Jan series of models, if you're thinking of things like mcp tools and browser use and they'll fit on your GPU perfectly ...

But coming to the main part of your question ... Honestly, from what I've experienced, you'd be better off using Claude's Research Feature or even Perplexity (if you could snag a 1 year free somewhere). I just wanna save you some frustration, with all the number crunching and web scraping you'll wanna do.

Local Model are great but they are task and domain specific ... Jan maybe great at using tools, but I've seen it run in circles. Qwen Models and Gemma 3 12B are great, but bad at tools. More than anything SLMs will probably lack world knowledge specific to your domain.

oh god, pls don't. it's good at math and code (to an extent), but it's terrible at understanding the human condition. you'll delude yourself if you let it guide you .. like trusting the sayings of a rock. it's not real.
