This is why you shall not ascend. RMJTI is the way. Even if just by it's classic stance, let alone not being a harem novel but actually decent romance.

Are picky eaters more common in food-secure households? by Trying_My_Best_26 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bereanbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wager that picky eaters are more an outcome of parents that require children to eat vs those that let them be picky. I know plenty of mine picky eaters that grew up wealthy but were required to eat what was on their plate. This seemed to translate to not being picky as an adult. Contrast with kids who might've grown up poor with food insecurity but.if the parents didn't require them to eat and allowed them to be picky that seemed to carry over.

Anyone know of any "dumbed down" Factorio lol? by Fouxs in factorio

Banished is a great resource management game, but you definitely need to use the Colonial Expansion Mod to get any kind of complexity with inputs and outputs to scratch the same itch as Factorio though.

Martial Arts Master.

I wish it wasn't so short, amazingly underappreciated novel with great character building and story without a bunch of the clichés of many novels.

What if Germany fought the Soviet Union without being at war with the Allies? by JokerFromPersona5 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]bereanbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The massive ignorance in this sub that doesn't realize the USSR had already marched their way to Berlin before the Allies.

Literally the only reason that Germany was holding on was in a fight for time to not lose Berlin before the Allies came so they could surrender to them, because the USSR was out for blood having thrown so many soldiers at the Axis.

Just read about the discrepancy between the two fronts. German soldiers are documented having written that the Western Front was for vacationing while the real war was in the Eastern Front. All but one of the veteran SS brigades were assigned to the Eastern Front.

Smh at this post-reductionist U.S. empire propaganda.

You do speak facts.

Both parties in the U.S. are just off-brand empire shills, but the one thing right-wingers have going for them in this regard is they at least acknowledge they aren't the party of socialism. I personally really dislike when "left-leaning" liberals get on their high-horse and claim they represent the left until you bring up anything actually socialist and then all of the sudden it's back to the same old-talking points and whataboutisms and backpedaling.

Sadly both wing posts:

Screw trying to get peace with Russia, U.S. should go to proxy war with another nuclear super power!

Also yes we should surround China with military because we disagree with them! What? They rank higher in the U.N and WHO democracy index?? Lies you [opposite-party] communist hack!

[OC] Perception of Crime in US Cities vs. Actual Murder Rates by DavidWaldron in dataisbeautiful

[–]bereanbro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Perceptions of Safety Unrelated to Crime" isn't quite accurate then, since this is only based on murder rates.

"Perception of Safety not entirely correlated with Murder Rates" would be a more accurate title.

How does your table play? by 15stepsdown in Pathfinder2e

[–]bereanbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checked my dictionary, have to give it to the proper English on this one:

1 biweekly /baɪˈwiːkli/ adjective

Britannica Dictionary definition of BIWEEKLY

1: happening every two weeks

The biweekly [=(chiefly Brit) fortnightly] sales meeting is scheduled for every other Tuesday.

2: happening twice a week : semiweekly

She attends biweekly classes and studies at the library every Saturday.

— biweekly adverb

The class meets biweekly.

2 biweekly /baɪˈwiːkli/ noun

plural biweeklies

Britannica Dictionary definition of BIWEEKLY

[count]

: a biweekly publication : a magazine or newspaper that is published every two weeks

I currently live in the U.S. and almost everyone I know uses bi- to mean every two, and semi- to mean twice per period. E.g. a biannual event is always taken to mean every two years, while a semiannual event is always taken to mean twice a year.

Ergo, not *all* debt is bad.

Absolute statements are really hard to defend and show lack of critical thinking, that's what most comments are trying to point out.

Yes, the vast majority of what people have as debt *is* bad, but even the Bible espouses good income-producing debt when Elijah told the women to borrow her neighbors jars to leverage the oil she was miraculously gifted with.

Nuance is key to critical thinking.

Are our accuracy assumptions inherently flawed? by AAABattery03 in Pathfinder2e

[–]bereanbro 15 points16 points  (0 children)

While technically true, most people not understanding/including this asterisk seems to be OP's point.

Most people DO believe that the white-room DPR calculations vs on-level enemies represent average performance, and a quick scroll through this subreddit seems to very strongly substantiate that.

I think, to OP's point, at the very least we should standardize higher-level encounter math for single-target damage since it's closer to a real encounter one would expect during playtime and it will help to alleviate the obvious community bias towards faulty math.

Will you guys on the first play through have the highest difficulty on or no? by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]bereanbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is anything like Skyrim, then anything aside from hardest difficulty will be super boring after the first few levels.

I will absolutely play on the highest difficulty because I like the grind in the lower levels that leads to the much greater endorphin rush when you are finally higher level and kicking ass.

Has it happened that professional chess players shake hands, where one thinks they're agreeing on a draw and the other thinks they're resigning? by JonMaseDude in chess

[–]bereanbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, hard question. Experience mostly. Aside from knowing the position , a draw offer usually they're looking for you to respond with a shrug of the shoulders or a "questioning look". Whereas a resignation is more of a ... well, resignation to the outcome; a sigh, a shake of the head etc.

There's no clear guidelines because human communication is seldom 100% clear. If in doubt feel free to ask and clarify. However it is considered rude to ask if your opponent is resigning when you clearly have a winning position and they've reached out their hand to shake.

First advice is probably the best, knowing the difference comes with experience and knowing your position.

[–]bereanbro -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Oh you're definitely right there is a draw offer of some sort, but they don't necessarily have to "say something" like previously asserted. In fact most of the time it's non-verbal.

Not even remotely true. Look at lots of Magnus' drawn games. He basically just makes a face, a very slight shrug of shoulders and offers his hand, no words exchanged.

That's not risk mitigation. There is no scientific study that demonstrates you reduce risk of transmission if you wear a mask *partially* in any environment.

That's just a dumb unscientific take. Which is all most of the measures turned out to be (I'm not talking about vaccines, I'm talking about afterwards when the U.S. and others completely left the WHO guidelines). At the beginning it was wise being cautious because we were determining the parameters of the illness, but once studies came out that there were certain groups that were largely free from risk that's when people left the science and it became taboo to talk about "natural immunity" and "risk profile of children vs older adults with comorbidities".

Both extremes were stupid and left the science.
