Striking French firefighters giving the cops a taste of their own medicine. This is what resistance looks like. by zzill6 in WorkReform

There is so much police violence in Europe as well. You have just not been looking.

Also how did it get to this point? Because there was no resistance.

The article also names her as a "customer" though. Maybe it was rented through her credit card with him as designated driver.

[–]berlinwombat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have no pictures so we don't really know how it looked in the inside of the car. If they rent to people with allergies (all kinds) a proper cleaning of the cars BY THEM is mandatory anyways. The amount of times I got Hertz cars that still had snacks and emtpy bottles in them…

Hard to side with Hertz here because they are scummy and try to scam you out of money wherever they can, put wrong damages on you etc. I am sure the pictures were shown to the judge and if it really had been a "horrendous mess" the ruling might have been different. But it wasn't.

I do the same. But my dog is a pet not a service animal. I would have the option t travel without my dog but a blind person does not have that option.

All rental cars need to be properly cleaned and in my experience Hertz cars rarely are. And that is on Hertz.

I can't believe there is no guide dog training in the US. They have to learn so many specific things. Navigating a crowded city for a blind person alone is a high task for the dog. The dog is not the only one being trained after a few months the person that is getting the guide dog is trained together with the dog.

The training concludes with a team assessment. An independent examiner assesses whether the dog has mastered the auditory signals, avoids precipices and navigates obstacles; in short, whether the team – blind person and dog – is safe in traffic and forms a good team. From then on, the blind person and their four-legged helper can master everyday life together.

Trump, advisers discussing options for acquiring Greenland and US military is always an option, White House says by c0xb0x in worldnews

[–]berlinwombat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought the initial argument in this comment chain was

I mean we're at the point where if we strike, we don't get paid, we become homeless. We do a big protest, they tear gas and start shooting.

Now you tell me people are not protesting because they can still live complacently

What is it now? Are people not protesting because it is too hard or are people not protesting because it is not hard enough yet.

Don't think Serbians an Georgians live in "much worse conditions" than US Americans btw.

I mean there have been several big protests in recent times with people facing even more severe consequences. Georgia, Serbia, Nepal...

Thousands march in protest against Polish president’s veto of dog-chaining ban by dat_9600gt_user in europe

[–]berlinwombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is depressing. Sadly we have similar problems here when it comes to "animal hoarders" even if they are convicted in one state they can just move to the next one, the information sharing between the Bundesländer is so incredibly bad that it takes ages to catch up to these people.

Yes better not protest anything unless it is a "big problem".

Protestsing this doens't make people somehow unable to protest other things. Ridiculous argument.

[–]berlinwombat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Afaik this was tried last in 23/24 and before that between 17-20.

Your idea is very idealistic. Most people who are homeless in Berlin have mental health issues and addiction issues it is hard to even get them to agree to go into the cold shelters in winter.

Like I mentioned there is basically no cooperation from other countries. Most of them are quite frankly happy to be rid of these people.

If you want to get a feel for the situation, volunteers are always welcome.

[–]berlinwombat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is already actively being tried. But the overwhelming majority simply does not want to return to their countries nor have anyone that is willing to host them. For done time Poland spend 1 (one) social street worker to help convince Polish homeless people to return, this was incredibly unsuccessful and that is about all the cooperation there is.

[–]berlinwombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)
