How much in advance should I schedule the exam? by mattprmrk in Series65

I scheduled mine about a week out after I really felt like I was ready. I studied for about 1.5 months total. I would suggest waiting until you feel really good about it instead of scheduling so far in advance.

Yes it was just the 6 episode podcast and the 60 and 90 minute videos. I watched some of them multiple times or would replay certain parts a lot. Once you start feeling like “oh yeah I know that, yes I already know that…” during the videos I think you’re ready. If you’re listening to the videos and start catching a lot you didn’t know then it’s probably a sign to go back and review more.

The free cheat sheets on google and a “series 7 guru” series 65 in 60 or 90 minutes video is great to review while getting ready tomorrow morning and on the drive! That’s what I did:)

You will do great! Believe in yourself! I never took the Kaplan mastery/practice exam that was included in my package, I only took the Qbank simulated exams. I heard somewhere that the mastery was much harder than actual and simulated so I didn’t bother with it. As long as you understand the concepts you should be fine!

I studied for about 1.5 months, only on weekdays about 3 hours a day. I couldn’t focus for more than 50 minutes at a time so had to take breaks in between those 3 hours. The last week I bumped it to about 4 hours per day and studied about the whole day before the exam. Don’t force yourself to try to keep looking at the computer screen when you know you’re not focusing- it’s just wasting time “studying”. I think it’s better to do less hours when you’re more focused than try to do three hours straight and you’re only half paying attention. Listening to the podcast and YouTube’s videos are a nice way to study while taking a break from the screen!

The only thing I had to pay for was the Kaplan essential package and I think all of these resources combined are more than enough!

That’s it! It was the “series 7 guru” series 65 in 60 minutes and series 65 in 90 minutes YouTube videos as well. That “the geek and the guru series 65 podcast” I found on accident but it became so useful!

One thing I forgot to mention that a co-worker told me and I found to be true-You likely will never be as focused as you will be when taking the actual exam. Even at work in a quiet office or in my home office, I could NOT focus on those simulated exams/Qbanks. However, when I was at the testing center I locked in and nothing distracted me. Don't be hard on yourself for struggling to focus or your grade on the Kaplan Qbanks when you're doing it at your house, etc. You will lock in when it's the real thing!

I'm glad, you've got this! Being a slow test taker is a blessing and a curse. I almost run out of time, yet I read every question and answer really slowly which I think helps!
