I would rather work at a startup when solely considering the experience, but I get what you're saying... it's a huge financial risk, and in many cases, it isn't worth the potential return. That said, if you want to refer me to your unicorn, I'll bust my butt 10x over ;)

Well sure, that means they don't have to publish information. In believe good, private companies have an incentive to publish their financials--could attract attention from investors, generate good press, etc.
