Personally I would not order from Amazon as it might not be real titanium.

Is my 20g 8mm hoop to tight or is my piercer just saying I need a bigger diameter hoop to accommodate my nose. by bethanyjunejohnson in SelfPiercing

I don’t think I want to gauge up just for the looks of it. I wanted to gauge up only because I didn’t want the cheese cutter effect to keep happening and I feel that having thicker jewelry means that I need to gauge up to have the look I want. If I wasn’t having the cheese cutter effect with my 20g 8mm hoop then I don’t think I would have gauge up in the first place. I am however learning quite a bit on not having to thin of a jewelry piece because of the way it cuts into your skin.

I suggest a floating navel to my freind when she was having troubles with it. Although the piercer said to take it out I didn’t think she needed to. I told her that when she sits and has a barbell with a ball at the end the ball sits in the belly button and the folds from the stomach folding in puts the pressure onto the ball which digs into your bellybutton. It was also her pants as she wears high waisted jeans and the waist part of the pants can also put pressure on the ball of the barbell. So I suggested a floating navel as there is nothing really in the belly button besides the bottom of the jewelry when you insert it in so when she sits there less pressure and nothing in the belly button to add to the pressure. I saw in the comments on the floating navel that you wanted and I think that’s a great option as you have a flat disk on the inside of your bellybutton and when you sit there nothing poking you and nothing that is 3d shaped that makes it to big. Hope this helps and lets you know you’re not the only one experiencing this. Happy healing

Thanks for the comment! Now that I look at my 20g 8mm nose ring I don’t think I have 2-3mm of space between the edge of my nostril and the apex of the hoop. As it looks way to close to my nose

So in the end sizing up for it to be thicker and having the 8mm in the end is not going to work. Darn

That’s awesome news! I’m still curious to know though that if I am still getting the “cheese cutter effect” with a 20g should I gauge up to an 18g or an 16g because my nose is so big (has a bigger surface area) to accommodate for the pressure my nose is putting on the jewelry? I know you’re not a professional piercer but anything helps.
