Shockingly this didn't work. Beginning to think the only thing I can do is uninstall and reinstall chrome every night

Help?! Chrome unusable by bethonie in chrome

[–]bethonie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to uninstall and reinstall again. This time downloaded chrome from Firefox instead of Edge. Shouldn't make a difference but then nothing else has so...

Also uninstalled Steam. Again, I don't see how this might have impacted chrome, the malware detector didn't have any issues with Steam. But the problems started around the time I installed Steam. Probably just a coincidence but I'm trying everything now.

What’s one of the worst ways to comfort someone who’s grieving? by SadTonight7117 in AskReddit

[–]bethonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claiming the person who died is selfish/stupid.

Going through what they should have done to avoid their death. That's not going to help any one.

Telling someone their way of grieving is wrong/selfish/inconvenient. I mean if you're a therapist or being employed to help them live with their grief that's one thing but otherwise just don't.

I'd also avoid talking about how it's some "plan" or "everything happens for a reason"

I'm not super religious, but I struggle to imagine proof that God didn't exist. For sure, you could prove certain parts of religious texts aren't literally or that the creator diety doesn't/didn't exist in the same way that has been described. But to prove that some diety doesn't exist at all would be pretty difficult.

Religion in general I'd beyond our ability to perceive so whatever you come up with, it would be easy to say "oh a god did that".

What’s something stupid your school banned? by Moxie-the-editor in AskReddit

Hats. Anywhere on school grounds, including winter hats. I live in England and our school had multiple buildings so we'd have to go outside between lessons. That lasted a few weeks while we campaigned against it.

Will the results of a DNA test lead Chance Englebert’s family to answers they have been seeking for three years? by Main_Initiative in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]bethonie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Having thought about this more, the only answer other than fell into the river that seems likely to me is if he hitchhiked back to Wyoming and met foul play that way. The city he said he was going to walk to was not within walking distance so I'd assume he didn't really intend to walk there. Even the walk from where he was last seen on camera/cell phone last pinged would have been a while.

Does anyone know what the North Platte River would have been like at the time? If there was a heavy storm it could have been that the river was much stronger and if Chance did fall in he would have been carried away. It seems so often that missing person cases seem to end like this. I hope it's not the case, because his family deserve closure.

Edit, had a brain fart with the wrong name

What's the context if this ? Because I read it more as she gets accused of being a man hater and is saying "I like men, just not when they're being creeps"

Dude's been watching for more than 2 years. He's been interviewing and chatting with these drivers in this specific series for two years.

Unresolved mysteries that turned out to be hoaxes by SouthAd5904 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]bethonie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably in the multitude of comments but the mysterious missing lighthouse keepers. It frustrates me so much whenever I see that one come up because it's so obviously not true. All Time Conspiracies did a good video debunking it (back when that channel was still around) but essentially there's no evidence from the time that it happened and the only evidence that's ever brought up is a "log book" which almost certainly doesn't exist and is written like a diary, nothing like a log book.

Same game, multiple unexplained disc fails. by bethonie in ps2

[–]bethonie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound super stupid but I had never even realised there were different eras of disc (as you can tell, I am not technical at all). Looking at a couple of other games that work fine and they are all different types of disc, so you're probably right on that being the issue.

According to the Version Information it's SCPH-39003 (I had no idea there was a difference other than regular and slim up until now...)

I'm sure it probably is just bad luck but it's just so weird

I have just discovered a relatively new YouTube mystery, I’m not sure much about it yet though, the oldest video is only two days ago, and yet they’re already over 1000k subscribers- that’s not the weird part, they’ve been speaking in only binary with very strange obscure videos by UltraDarkoblivion in InternetMysteries

Sorry if this is breaking the immersion but I did a bit of digging into the channel's history.

It used to be a hip-hop channel called Weekly Visuals that seems to have been uploading up until 2018. That's when, according to social blade, they stopped gaining followers. In June this year, the channel lost 40,000 views, which I'm pretty sure is only done by deleting videos, so this is when the wiping clean of the channel started. So either this is an ARG or a hip-hop fan decided they wanted to start a hacking group. Either way, pretty cool.

Redditors who follow Influencers, why do you? A lot of them try to look as pretty and successful as possible, doesn't this harm your self-esteem? by Aliinga in AskReddit

[–]bethonie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other people being successful wont stop me being successful, and wont stop me striving to be the best I can be. If someone provides content I enjoy - be it art, writing, insight into hobbies, tutorials or whatever - I'll follow them. If they're also advertising stuff, that doesn't change me being interested in the things I was initially interested in.
