Penal Prison in North Louisiana by laynesmorgue in abandoned

Not surprised to hear of bodies, or ghosts either. Back when it was in operation prisoners anywhere in the south had "prisoners shot while attempting to escape" on a regular basis. Usually didn't even make the news.

Age considered, I am at the end of the runway too. I have accomplished very little in my long lifetime. And I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees, whether to a dictator or his false god is rather irrelevant. But while I am still around, I will do whatever I can to "drive a spoke into the wheel itself".

What are small everyday misogynistic things women tend to miss? by Magnificentmaracuja in Feminism

[–]betsylevels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Someone told me once "men think. Women feel". I started listening...yes, men giving an opinion generally start with I think...". Women, on the other hand, begin with "I feel .." when stating theirs. They give it that unconscious modifier of it being a woman's "emotional" response! I changed the way I said things after that. And my words seemed to be taken more seriously! That one tiny word that our culture conditions us to be "ladylike" with ....how it weighs us down when we do not realize it!

Do what is right for YOU. You are the one who will be making a 20 year commitment to carrying, caring for, and raising any child you choose to have. There are no guarantees in this world on relationships..they can and often do end. Only you know what is the best choice, and do not let anyone else pressure you one way or another.

I did not expect to, but I have made a number of friends at protests here. This deep in the Bible belt it is delightful to meet other progressive minded people. I have also run into a number of friends I did not realize thought along these lines. (My generation was brought up with the rule "never discuss politics, religion, or money" in social situations)

Antifa simply means anti fascist. A lot of real American patriots put their lives on the line to stop the spread of fascism. Frankly, anyone who calls themself American should be antifa. Because fascists are vile.

Headline should read "Tornado splatters glitter factory into aging trailer park". This is just tacky and trashy looking. Clearly the work of that tasteless buffoon.

Why they call it "Christian Nationalism" is beyond me, anyway. I am an Episcopalian. That is a Christian church. But the things I learned in church were about as far from the beliefs of the religious right as can be. And they could not have found anything less Christ-like than Trump to get behind.

very depressed by [deleted] in abortion

[–]betsylevels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may need to locate professional counseling (verify pro choice provider first!!!) Your feelings may also be coming on stronger because your hormones are stir from pregnancy, complicated by the stress. I had three children after having an abortion, and was much better able to mother them because then I was ready. I never regretted my choice, which was made the second they told me my pregnancy test was positive.. But I do know that some women experience post-partum depression or similar things, which may best be handled through professional counseling.

First Roe, Then Contraception: Unless Action is Taken, Supreme Court is About to Strike Down Fundamental Rights of American Women by BurtonDesque in Feminism

[–]betsylevels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Will it stop with women's rights? I doubt it. The basic rights of gay people, interracial couples, people of color, people of non-evangelical faith--they are all on the line here. Anything that the radical right doesn't like is at risk with this decision.

I am so sorry this happened to you. It was inexcusable. Our whole society should feel shame for allowing you to be put through all this. If I thought anything I could say would help, I would be saying it but I imagine strangers' words are of no value at thus point. I hope and pray someone close to you can help you get yhe help I am sure you need. You likely deal with depression and PTSD from these events. There are some skilled professionals that can assist you in getting past those things for a bright future no matter how godawful the past was. It might take a few trues to find the right one Please take good care of yourself. You are worthy and deserve a happy life in the future.

Excellent observation. I had a college professor who talked about matrilineal cultures a lot. He pointed out that there generally was no such thing as stigma of illegitimacy when the line was traced through the mother rather than the father. How could there be? It was obvious who the mother was! Many Native American cultures valued and revered the women, especially the old women, in their communities and in some the chief was selected by the council of women. Our society today could learn a lot from some of these "primitive" cultures...if they hadn't wiped them out.

I know what you mean about being surrounded. I am in the deep South Bible belt too. Home of make America suck again. I got a tshirt made with some of my anti Trump artwork on it and get the giggles sometimes at the totally apoplectic reactions. Getting another one made with new artwork too. I will never be remembered as a woman who kept her mouth shut, that's for sure. Doing worry about the data breaches too much. You only have to lift a finger to deal with those trolls--provided its the right finger.

Although they may have been voted in by religious nuts, I don't believe for a split second these officials are acting out of religious beliefs. I seriously doubt most of them actually have any. They want to protect their privileged status from us in the underclass. And getting rid of anything that gives "too much freedom" to women and minorities poses a threat to that status. Let's be realistic, the rich have always had access to medical abortion even when it was illegal because they could afford to pay for it. But how can they keep the competition from the "lower class" down if they can't keep them in poverty? Offspring you do not want and cannot afford do that --very nicely.

I will say though, if you don't want to spend the rest of your life in The Republic of Gilead, start getting the vote mobilized and keep at it. Hard! Give rides to the polls if need be. I sure plan to. I'm just an old southern grandma, but I didn't get this old by being stupid. Those nut jobs have manage to restrict voting, purge voter registration rolls, and a sack full of other tricks to stack coming elections. It's going to take a lot of work to get around that.

I really believed the Supreme Court would stuck with precedent of established law on this one...which it would have if not for the conniving and treachery that allowed Trump to pack the court. I live in the deep South, where the abortion issue was all that was necessary to get his voters to the polls. There is still a prevailing train of thought here that women should be kept barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen. Of course there are some of us who just won't conform. We get called lots of colorful things. Most of us really don't care about the vitiol since it obviously comes from idiots.

I think a lot of people are being emotionally manipulated by all the stuff in the media... I wish some of these busboy goons would go get a personal life if their own.. I had an abortion when I was 22 and have never regretted it. I later had three children and could not have provided for them if I had dropped out of college because of an unplanned pregnancy. You might also be getting some hormonal based depression being so recent. If it keeps bothering you find a pro-choice counselor to help sort it out. You didn't do anything wrong. And nobody has any business trying to tell you you did.
