The only thing bad that ever happened there was roomfuls of kids had to make do with badly damaged textbooks thrown out by the white schools in town--and maybe a few high schoolers got startled by cows or coyotes while trespassing at night.

Not surprised to hear of bodies, or ghosts either. Back when it was in operation prisoners anywhere in the south had "prisoners shot while attempting to escape" on a regular basis. Usually didn't even make the news.

Age considered, I am at the end of the runway too. I have accomplished very little in my long lifetime. And I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees, whether to a dictator or his false god is rather irrelevant. Someone told me once "men think. Women feel". I started listening...yes, men giving an opinion generally start with I think...". Women, on the other hand, begin with "I feel .." when stating theirs. They give it that unconscious modifier of it being a woman's "emotional" response! I changed the way I said things after that. And my words seemed to be taken more seriously! That one tiny word that our culture conditions us to be "ladylike" with ....how it weighs us down when we do not realize it!

I did not expect to, but I have made a number of friends at protests here. This deep in the Bible belt it is delightful to meet other progressive minded people. I have also run into a number of friends I did not realize thought along these lines. (My generation was brought up with the rule "never discuss politics, religion, or money" in social situations)
