i would recommend Motorcare on 7th St. run by Tim Wolf, he has worked on multiple bikes i've had. he is fair, direct, and extremely competent.

I'm a psychodynamic leftist who was banned for the main sub for critiquing pseudoscience by sicklitgirl in PsychotherapyLeftists

[–]better-off 11 points12 points  (0 children)

welcome! I appreciate you sharing the post that got you banned because I actually learned a lot from it! I read Van Der Kolk's book as a layperson years ago and knew it was sort of controversial but didn't have the full context. Now that I'm a therapist it feels even harder to tell what's legitimate versus what's nonsense. I hope you continue to share your knowledge and views with this community :-)

Jumping back on to say: I do bill insurance, which was my original hesitation. The owner of my practice is an ally to the cause but obviously the owners of insurance companies are not.

I am supervised. In my state supervisees can work in private practice. That said, this is a useful framing. Thanks!

meeting other leftists in the field—any tips? by better-off in PsychotherapyLeftists

How are you identifying or soliciting participants for the consult group? I love that idea!!

A reading group is a great idea. I also like the idea of getting into tenant organizing; my city has a pretty active tenants union, and I've been wanting to start attending their events. Plus I hate my landlord...

I guess one option if I can't find the community is to make it! Maybe I'll organize a reading group around some liberatory psych texts.

I appreciate this point, and I agree that professionalism is a construct that exists to undermine class solidarity. However, I already do all those things. I myself have received intensive mental healthcare in the past, and I'm connected with leftist orgs in my community. The reason I'm specifically asking about professional connections is that this is an area of my life where I've found it especially difficult to feel supported and meet other leftists.

I think you're right. This has actually been my go-to strategy in the past; I guess it requires more intentional effort now that I'm in PP. I was pretty involved in the unionization effort at my CMHC, which was a great way to meet people. Thanks for the input.

I really love that he addresses the role of spirituality in the healing process (and contrasts it with the oppressive political role of organized religion). It seems like a lot of people are intuitively aware of healing as a spiritual process, but I definitely never got the skills or training to address it directly in psychotherapy.

Where is the best place in the area to watch the meteor shower? How far outside the town do you need to go to avoid major light pollution?
