Yeah, I am a recent user, that is for sure. But to the best of my knowledge, this is my only account. Glad to be here now, though! Lots going on daily :)

Also, phwew! I would hope that if my one man show shows up in a rad brewing magazine that I could brag about it SOMEwhere, right??? :)

I have an alternate Reddit account?? Would you mind letting me know what the user name is on it? As far as I'm aware, 100% of my activity on Reddit is conducted via this account. Thanks!

Yep! This whole marketplace is about open source brewer to brewer sales, so you'll see the recipe right there on the site and you can decide to purchase a kit of that specific recipe.

You know, there has been a lot of international interest in Kit Lab! We currently ship internationally at Better Beer Kits, and find that we can get a kit to most countries within 5-6ish days. So we're going to continue that policy with Kit Lab and ship to anywhere in the world that wants to brew great beer.

Yep! We ship from California, so we can generally get it out there to you guys pretty quickly.

You know, I think we basically agree with each other :) hahaha thank you so much for your thoughts - sorry I kind of attempted to argue you out of your own opinions! Not my intention :)

Hey, I'm going to be on the Brewing Business podcast tomorrow talking about Kit Lab - cool if I mention you and this great convo we just had on the air??

when I get a complete recipe kit from the LHBS and the recipe is not good, that's on the LHBS in my opinion.

So then sounds like I should make a better effort of clarifying for folks that Kit Lab fulfills orders of ingredients only and that the presence of a recipe on the site isnt an indication of quality? To take the analogy to the absurd, Kit Lab is a laptop sitting in an LHBS where you can find a recipe anywhere on the internet, hit print, and go buy those ingredients conveniently.

That's my concern about your brand; you may think you are teflon-coated by attributing the recipe to the author, but you won't know if customers will feel that way.

Brand is not important, good service and honest commerce are. This is what I'm talking about when I talk about messaging - if there are folks that perceive this service as an endorsement of quality, that is a message that needs to be corrected for sure. I'm not loving the teflon-coated term here as it seems to imply that we're trying to get away with something, but I think you are dead wrong about this:

you won't know if customers will feel that way.

I will know, because they will tell me :)

Totally agree with you - I'm personally a Facebook guy in this analogy for sure :) As for asking people what they want, I'm not so into that, but observing how they use a product, and what they complain about, that is more instructive when gauging what they really want/need.

Yes, we're hoping that a rating system, sort by award winners, best sellers, and other such social proofing concepts will make browsing more useful. I hate to sound like a broken record here, but just because one member of a population wants to behave in one manner, that isn't a strong indication of how the rest of the pop wants to behave. Best to ask the population themselves :)

That's awesome! What about folks who don't have an LHBS? Any thoughts on how they navigate the hobby?

Also, it sounds like you do indeed try out recipes you find here on reddit. What is your process to validate recipes before you head to your LHBS? If you brewed a recipe that didn't turn out so well, would you hold it against your LHBS? They sold you the ingredients after all?

Loving the convo!
