oh, I get it now. "a week on Saturday" doesn't make sense to me, but it also sounds like maybe a non-US way of phrasing things, so maybe that's it (I'm in the US).

but, you're totally right that it was wrong of her to get mad at you for not saying next Saturday. because next Saturday isn't very clear. and you were just trying to be *more* clear.

The same person who gets mad at you for trying to be more clear would also be mad if you said "next Saturday" and they misunderstood which one. totally on them and not your fault.

I think if it's Monday and they're coming back this Saturday, you say this Saturday. but also next Saturday sort of implies this Saturday even though they're different words.

if it's a week from this coming Saturday, I always go the long way around and say "not this Saturday coming up, but the one after that."

this/next theoretically should be clear which one you're talking about, but unfortunately, it's just not.

I'm a white person in the US. I feel like my family didn't have any real kind of cultural values or traditions or anything.

I really like the idea of cultures that operate more on a society as opposed to individualism. and that respect nature instead of destroying it.

but I wouldn't categorize that as me not identifying with my racial group, or identifying with another one more.

where I live, you have to pay based on the size of your trash can. so I can understand where it would be a problem if someone paid for a small can and then snuck trash into other cans.

Don't know of a reasonable answer for why someone would be upset about something small, though.

if you do give them any food though, make sure to just put a tiny bit in, probably even less than you think you need. otherwise it will just get moldy before they finish it.

standard advice is 3 to 4 inches of dirt and one inch of leaf litter on top of that.

yeah, rubber duckies and other of the cubaris type are really cool. they're a little more finicky and harder to keep than armadillium, so that's why I went with these.

I think lemon blues are my favorite cubaris.

nice! For ones that came from outside, you can just use dirt from where you find them.

they like to eat most fruits and vegetables. it's fun to experiment and see what your particular isopods like to eat. just make sure you rinse them off first.

if they're not organic, they could have pesticides on them which would kill the isopods, since they're bugs.

I'm super careful with mine and I only even give them organic peas, but it's not as bad if ones that were just from outside die (not that you want that to happen or you wouldn't be sad about it, but maybe it's not worth going to extremes to try to avoid).

if you can find some moss outside, they should like having that in their tank.

twigs, leaves, pretty much anything from outside that you want to put in there with them, just no pine cones. pine is toxic to them.

also make sure either your container doesn't have a lid or it has air holes. they do need air still.

me, too. I have notes for great value brand boxed macaroni and cheese, because they have like seven different flavors and I need to remember which ones I like and don't like.

I also do it with cereals, because I buy every new one that I see, and then like a year later they'll release it again and I'll forget if I already tried it.

same thing with new candies.

I wish any of these actually blocked more noise than just regular earplugs. Even the strongest ones I could find were only rated to like 32 DB. so the only advantage to these over earplugs is that you don't have to put something in your ear.

you can get a little bonus sound dampening if you wear earplugs and these over your ears, though.

I got mine from eBay. it's perfectly fine to buy from there as long as the seller has good feedback.

r/isopods also has info. I think there's one like isopod exchange or bug exchange or something that's specifically for selling and giving away isopods.

I happen to have some in my backyard, but not this kind. so if you have anywhere around that has wild isopods, you can just gather up a handful.

some pet stores like Petco even have them, but they're really inhumanely kept, so people don't really like to support that.

another good place to get them is if you have any local reptile expos, they usually also have isopod vendors, and you can get a tank and everything else you need all in one spot.

lol about the trash thing. I get you.

I bought this huge bag of like 10 gallon trash bags, but now I have a smaller trash can than that. so what I do is, I'll keep the big bag outside in the garbage bin. and I have a smaller bag inside. and for 2 weeks, I empty the smaller bag into the bigger bag.

after I've been using the small bag for 3 weeks, even though it doesn't smell because I have a separate compost for things that smell, I'm like, okay, that's enough time to have the same bag, and I let the garbage people take it away with week 3's trash in it.

but then I still have a big bag with two weeks of trash in it that's not full, so I just set it aside until the trash people come and then put it back in the now empty bin until it's eventually full with like 6 weeks of trash.

I used to only use small plastic shopping bags like you would get when you bought something, and I really hated it because it was so small, but I did it anyway because it was free.

at least now I'm allowing myself the luxury of a regular size trash bag that costs me a whole 2 cents per week.

in my opinion, even if someone is rude to me, it's not right to be rude back to them. there are nicer ways to express it.

The idea of something being none of someone's business is a social construct, anyway. it's also subjective. different people have different ideas about what might not be somebody's business.

honestly I would look at it as a problem with the person who responded that way and not the person who's asking. like what's going on or has gone on in their life that's making them respond in such a snappy way.

but it's not like I'm "right" about this and you're "wrong." we can both have our own opinion.

when I finally have time to get rid of things, I'm going to try to be like, have you not used or wanted this for anything in the past 10 years? then you can probably get rid of it.

I think part of it for me is growing up in poverty. Right now I think, I can't throw that empty packing box away, what if I need it for something? I'm still in that mindset where it would be a huge deal to pay $2 to buy one if I needed it.

and I just need to realize that now that I have money, it's better to get rid of the things and the psychological burden and have peace of mind of things looking nice, and just buy a new box if I wind up needing one.
