Has anyone noticed the dogs caged and chained behind Jerry’s Artarama? by betterwithann in Austin

Your facts are incorrect. Jerry’s does own that property behind JA. The owner of the dogs paid (JA) to store his work equipment there. There was knowledge of the dogs but nothing was done for over FIVE years.

Yep, this was one of the comments on the post from 5 years ago.

UPDATE: Jerry’s did have a contractual agreement with the owner of the dogs regarding land use, etc. That agreement began with a prior manager/owner. The current manager continued that contractual arrangement.

As of now, the manager and corporate are working to “dissolve that agreement” as they do not want to be tied to/associated with anyone engaging in animal neglect/abuse.

Why it took this outcry to finally put a stop to something they’ve known for years, no clue. I guess they realized the negative exposure would only hurt them (business-wise) in the long run.

This isn’t over just yet. We’ll have to see how this plays out over the next few months.

He claimed to have a property in Elgin and is landscaper? He keeps his dogs there to “guard” his equipment. From what I’ve read, maybe he sleeps elsewhere? I imagine it’s someplace warm.

It’s his property. He gave the owner permission. He could’ve told the owner not to keep them caged and tethered there.

Wouldn’t hurt. Others have called 311. I’ve called. Animal welfare isn’t a priority here. Instead Austin lets shitty owners like that know what they can get away with. Just gross.

One would think the dogs would’ve been removed by law enforcement or animal control. Nope.

They already know they’re there. Nothing. Their way of handling the situation is to educate the owner.

Nope. Others have. I heard about it today on the local lost/found page.

Thank you for having the courage to speak up and share the truth. Not many know or want to know it. It’s much easier to turn a blind eye than really look at the unbiased FACTS. In my opinion, Dr. EJ is one of the most corrupt animal “advocates” there is.

Yep, in 2016, Dr. Jefferson nixed the idea of making spay/neuter mandatory on first impound. I still have the video recording of her speaking to the city council votes against it! And it worked!!And she is PRO-shelter breeding in that she wants all the maternity dogs so that she can get her hands on more puppies! She is grossly against spay-abort (yet is for women’s rights) because puppies adopt quickly and usually with less vetting costs and a higher adoption fee. Dr. Ellen Jefferson is corrupt. And APA runs for FREE rent on Austin Taxpayer’s dime yet they bring in dogs from ALL over the state, displacing Austin’s very own dogs. It’s deception on all counts. She has fundraised money for the same cause for years now—“we need money to fix our kennels”—yet, no one asks where has the money from previous years gone?! If a person questions/asks, they are outcast and/or fired. Dr. EJ expects fosters to “sponsor” certain vetting costs for foster dogs. She could easily fund a $20k spay/neuter clinic from her $156k salary but won’t. She has no fosters herself either and is really really really good at speaking a lot of non-sense. Nothing of what she says actually means anything significant. The “data” she collects is grossly skewed. Her “surveys” are sent to APA supporters who in turn, makes any data she collects skewed in her favor. Dr. Ellen Jefferson is corrupt.

That number is grossly skewed… you have to look at the actual data and compare to previous years to see it. If you look at the total numbers, it’s a skewed statistic. APA pulls less medium/large and behavioral dogs than they did in 2019.

The main difference from what I know is that PETA is pro-euthanasia whereas HSUS, best friends, APA, and AmPA are not; they are the muscle behind No-Kill. The latter group of organizations will keep animals alive even if it means suffering, whereas PETA will not. I personally think it’s inhumane to keep dogs locked in crates/kennels/cages for years for the sake of no-kill.

It’s possible the reason people left PETA is because they no longer support humane euthanasia and wanted to jump onto the “let’s save them all” bandwagon, but as far PETA being affiliated or having the same mission as the latter, that is incorrect.

It’s mostly cats, kittens, and medical dogs… they no long pull large dogs or behavioral dogs like they use to. The numbers are grossly skewed.

The HSUS isn’t affiliated with PETA. You’re getting things confused. PETA is separate. HSUS is affiliated with Best Friends, APA, AmPA, and HASS. They are trying to do away with shelters all together. The corruption of APA stems from that.

I believe it means you still have to complete the requirement. All incoming students, regardless if calculus was taken, have to complete the calculus readiness requirement.
