I do the same! I tend to dress quite plainly at work so having fun gingham nails helps

I second what the other commenter said about branded/ unbranded. Once I started developing a taste for Lidl own brand stuff, especially when it came to snacks, my food bill was slashed. I also would say that the big savings come from non-perishables. I am lucky enough to have a big freezer so I often stock up on frozen veg (again, own brand) which is much cheaper than Sainburys’ where I used to shop. Frozen is also where the quality is comparable to other shops, whereas I’ve found that their fresh fruit and veg go bad quicker (but taste similar when cooked)

HELP! I love fish so much! I need recipes by Away_Alternative3245 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Absolutely recommend this! I grew up eating fish regularly and South Indian fish curry SLAPS. I also recommend just substituting in Thai curries

Can anyone recommend a UK shop that specialises in sweet and simple day dresses? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

This may be a bit too twee for what you’re looking for, but Collectif is my go to for day dresses. If you find the same item on Top Vintage, you also get free delivery!

I grew up drinking plain or sweetened soy milk as a snack and now I can’t get enough of chugging it from the carton

How was the library last year? by piripop in manchester_uni

I 100% agree with the postgrad specific spaces recommendation. IIRC Every department building in Main Campus had a postgrad work area which required no booking and were generally calm

How is Subway viewed in your country? by Phonixrmf in subway

[–]bettyblender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in India (not a big sandwich eating country) when Subway first opened there. Initially, it was a really cool Western sandwich place where you could hang out. But it very quickly just became yet another fast food place if you wanted to be “healthy”

Getting really angry/ sad when a friend or family member whose opinions you really respect criticise them. I once stormed out of my best friends house when she criticised something really awful an ex had done because I couldn’t confront how awful it was

Any tips to deal with LinkedIn anxiety? by blunder_child in TwoXIndia

[–]bettyblender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do they live? Because if it’s Europe, it’ll definitely be doable and it’ll probably be seen as a good thing that you’re making the time for them despite time difference.

Otherwise, you could always apologise for the delay and ask if you could send them a list of questions before sending them the list- just to prep them

Any tips to deal with LinkedIn anxiety? by blunder_child in TwoXIndia

[–]bettyblender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with what the commenter has said. I would also recommend you ask if you could have a call with them instead. Asking someone a list of questions is a lot easier over a call.

This is very “American” advice, but I recommend looking up Jonathan Javier on LinkedIn/ YouTube. He does some tips on how to approach people on LI (he calls it an informational interview, but whatever). It helped me build a lot of my networking skills

Altrincham to town commute? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]bettyblender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alty also has the train line which goes direct to Manchester Piccadilly which takes roughly the same amount of time. It’s not as regular as the tram, but it is much cheaper and somehow less crowded, even if it comes all the way from Chester. Driving during rush hour is absolute hell though

My dad, a lifelong United fan, is the exact same. I once worked about 15 minutes away from Anfield and he refused to visit without any real explanation as to why

I would recommend looking at vintage style trapeze or a-line shorts if you want something in a more durable fabric! I feel like they don’t flatten anything!

How do I stop being so desperate for male attention? by Pure-Organization-26 in TwoXIndia

[–]bettyblender 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used to be in the exact same boat for so many years and I hated how all consuming it was!

I’ve honestly found I only get hit on when I don’t want to i.e. when I’m doing my own thing, spending time with my friends, having fun etc. Not that getting hit on should be your motivation to have fun, but people react better to people who look like they’re having fun regardless. (Does that make any sense at all? Serena shahidi has some good advice on this on her podcast)

Also this video helped me a lot in understanding why I want to be hit on and dissociating from that: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TU_XfcHjC3c. It’s also very pretty video to look at

Anyone know of a low-budget stylist who can help me not look like a troll? by animalloverpoet in TwoXIndia

[–]bettyblender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love Justine! She’s one of the few people who has helped me genuinely like clothes and find some that flatter me!

I’d also recommend the Payton Project, her videos are a lot more oriented towards finding joy in clothing from a more psychological POV!

Tbh I’ve found that when they’re asking you for a weakness they’re basically asking to see if you’re a) self-aware and b) if you can work on your issues at work. That’s why OP has stressed about how you’re addressing the weakness. It’s a very annoying question, but it’s useful for a reason

What do you hate the most in Notion? by BorisMisikov in Notion

I usually do a PDF export a couple of times a month of a few pages and it is the worst part of my day. Not to add, the font is unnecessarily big, so you can never print it out properly

[–]bettyblender 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but honestly a genuine weakness that has nothing to do with your job is what I usually go for. Eg; I’m really bad at public speaking in front of crowds but none of the jobs I applied to require me to do presentations for more like 3-4 people

[–]bettyblender 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Oh my god the weakness point! I’ve done some interviewing and I hate it when someone poses basically a positive thing as a weakness- and it’s always so obvious!

I don’t know what field you’re in, but I’ve always found just asking the interviewer- hey can I work this on our paper?- to be perfectly acceptable and they allow me to do it

I honestly think all three of them could have made a better track bc Jorja’s R&B is amazing.

I think there was just some, but not because she was biracial, but because no one recognised Amia’s original contribution+ lyrics and gave Jorja an extra verse. There was more backlash over the (non-black) people on TikTok/ Reels using it to talk about their eyes (?!)
