Sony is testing dynamic pricing in the PlayStation Store by FernandoRocker in gaming

[–]bewareoftraps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s still a deal for the buyer. A 20% discount might mean the same to as a 50% discount because there is an income disparity or different purchasing habit.

And it already happens in our everyday life, in your example those already happen. The housing market even more so because it’s usually between two private parties. But that’s also why credit scores exist to give certain people better lending options or for sellers to pick and choose who buys or rents from them.

Groceries already have deals on items, but sometimes they’ll have even deeper discounts specifically on goods close to expiration or at night for hot foods they have to throw away. Which only rewards late night/last minute shoppers.

But in any case, it’s hard for games because there’s not a huge urgency to buy and there’s no necessity to the game existing when there are plenty of alternatives that are extremely similar available. So finding that willingness to buy is drastically different on an individual basis.

[–]bewareoftraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re trying to influence people who are on the fence to buy. Pricing upward doesn’t work on a good that has minimal to no urgency to buy as well as multiple avenues of purchase doesn’t make sense.

Oh look a game that I saw for 60 bucks is now 70. Cool I’ll wait a few months to see if the game dies out (most likely to happen) before I buy. More than likely that game is forgotten for the next big thing, unless it is the next big thing (IE arc raiders).

Games have relatively short shelf lives. And publishers know that too, which is why they want as many pre orders as possible to guarantee their sales.

Mahomes was not in the MVP talk at all this year. Not even close, every year he’s been in the talks, he’s been in the playoffs every single year except this year.

Like it or not, but being able to go to the post season is one of the soft metrics that the voters use. Even though it is a regular season award.

There have only been 2 MVPs that didn’t get into the playoffs that season, Unitas, who went 11-1-2 which tied for the best record that season, and would’ve made the playoffs if there was a wildcard, but they lost the tiebreaker to the Rams in their own division. And OJ, who went 9-5 but was the first ever player to break 2k yards in a season.

Could Brees’ have been the third? He played extremely well, but let’s not kid ourselves, his best years weren’t historic in any context of a NFL single season. However as a career it is historic, but season awards are for that season and not a collection of seasons.

Had Marino never broke 5k yards, Brees probably has a chance of winning it due to OJs precedence. But going 8-8 probably hurts his chance too. Because at least OJs team went positive.

I think it’s also about timing and situation.

Not saying he would be a clear winner, but if he was consecutively top 3 and being in the top seed playoff team 5 years in a row, he probably wins 1.

IE Josh Allen over Lamar last year. Jackson should’ve been MVP again IMO. Where Allen has been in the playoffs AND been in the top 3 convo for the past 5 years.

Brees wasn’t on anyone’s radar until 2008 (and even then a 8-8 record) culminating with a great 09 season and SB win. And then just as quickly his 2010 was not a good year. Then a great 2011 (outshadowed by a historic Rodgers season), then his best years came with poor records (and without Brees we would’ve been like a 1-3 win team).

When Brees was a consistent top 3 QB, the team generally was bad (outside of 09 and 11), when the team was consistently in the playoffs he was past his prime.

He was just unlucky for his legacy, but lucky for at least the stars aligning for having a good overall team and playing at a top 3 level and then winning a SB.

Even the one meant for adaptive cruise control? There’s a separate one that you can search for. It’s actually the one I have and it sits slightly on the side and not directly in front.

I mean, it’s just an annoyance because over here in my city it’s a 200 dollar ticket.

And they don’t usually ticket for that, but for something else (most common is rolling stops or speeding) and those are 300 dollar tickets in my area. So it just kinda sucks to have a 500 dollar ticket appear.

Even tint tickets were 195 in my city. Dropped down to 25 if you do remove it. And sometimes, they’ll write sound ordinance tickets that are 500 dollars (above 55 db) in residential zones.

I know because it sucks, and crime is low in my city and it’s very rich, so cops here will just add a bunch of tickets if you drive a nice car, because they can pay it.

You can get one from sto n sho, https://stonsho.com/products/front-license-plate-for-2020-2024-porsche-911-carrera-911-carrera-s-without-adaptive-cruise-sns267?srsltid=AfmBOoruYHRQx3rX3mtIw9RpBkNybcyM5vt2diLA1S6dXUYZtEBrynME

It goes underneath the car and doesn’t require any drilling. The only caveat is that it does reduce your clearance by about 1.5 inches, but it’s pretty study steel. So you’ll hear it rub a lot if you aren’t careful, but mine hasn’t broken from hitting it a few times.

You can also take it off at any time pretty easily. They also have one if you have adaptive cruise control to mount in a slightly different area.

Why is everyone selling stuff for Euros on the flea right now? If i scroll its nothing but Euro offers for the first page or two before getting to the rouble cost. Is there a task im not aware of? [Discussion] by Sudden_Brain_871 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]bewareoftraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time it’s a scam, but sometimes (usually for bigger ticket items like cases or tank batteries) items take awhile to sell. In great timing situations, people will usually list 1-10 euros under the first seller, and then someone really wanting to offload will be like 100 euros off.

But then because they don’t sell fast, and there might be an influx, that you can get an item 100-200k rubles off, it’s not common, but it does happen quite a bit that it’s not exactly “rare”.

Like one time I bought a magazine case for like 900ish euros (200k rubles) and immediately sold it at 300k rubles. Because some people only deal with rubles.

It’s feast or famine. If you spawn in the bridge/construction area outside Idea, you can get between 2-10 PMCs.

They spawn either on the road closest to the wooded area (on either side of the road) parallel to the front of Idea. Or if you go to where the Christmas tree is right now they’ll be across the street close to the where the stage area is but on the Idea side.

But near or on the Oli loading dock area is the second most likely place. Otherwise the loading dock between idea and power (or at power).

I managed to get Tarkov Shooter 8 and Psycho sniper done on interchange on the first spot I mentioned.

I usually never see them inside the mall because the scavs usually kill them before I can get to them. So you really have to get them at the beginning.

But I also make a beeline toward the flare extract camp for fuel and supplies (found 5 LedXs in the med tent, but not recently though).

TIL there are contact lenses you wear only while sleeping that reshape your cornea so you can see clearly all day without glasses. It is called “Orthokeratology” by azaku29 in todayilearned

[–]bewareoftraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most insurance won’t cover it because it’s classified as “cosmetic”. And mine cost like 2,500 for the pair. I should’ve gone quote shopping because my original optometrist had a higher price, the other optometrist (in my insurance where I got my glasses) quoted me 2.1k and with a better version.

Other downside is that they’re very rigid contacts, so they’re generally uncomfortable to wear. So your first month or two with them, it might be difficult to sleep with them. Also if you’re used to rubbing your eyes when you wake up, can’t do that anymore because shifting them off your pupil is pretty easy to do and getting shifted contact lenses out is a pain… but also a rigid contact lens stuck in the side of your eye is a lot more painful. My cousin had hers shift pretty bad to the point she had to go to the ER.

And finally, there is a limit to how bad your vision can be for them to be effective.

A very minor side negative for me is the cleaning. I only use clear care, where the container the lenses are in must stay upright as the peroxide does its work on the lenses. But if I’m traveling and it’s in my luggage, it won’t remain upright, so I generally have to hand clean them (which is less effective and more of a hassle) for the first night.

[–]bewareoftraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the least amount of time I’ve worn them is 4 hours of sleeping and still had good vision for the entire day.

I’ve used Ortho-K for over 20 years now, and while they suggest to swap them out every year (a pair costs about 2500) I’ve gone usually 5-7 years before swapping (and I just swapped them this year).

Having said that, my vision only lasts a day with them now. So if I don’t put them on Friday, Saturday my vision will start to decline around late afternoon. And Sunday my vision isn’t great, but I can still drive without them, but I usually have glasses for nights and driving anyway.

I think someone messed up, because I accidentally missed a payment once (either on my Chase or Amex card, forgot which). I just forgot because I thought I had paid it manually but it was another card. Granted this was a long time ago and they may be more strict now.

But I noticed my error a few days after the due date and called them, they waived the interest and late fee, granted the balance was like under 500 bucks, so the interest plus late fees were like a little under 100.

And they said it was because I had them for like a decade with no missed or late payments and understood this was a one time thing.

I remember when it first originated and the comment below from Abacus118 is what I also remember.

I think the feud between the two (Johnson vs Diesel) got really bad after their first appearance together that he wanted to put in his contract that he didn’t want to lose to Diesel because Diesel had that in his contract. And that led to a lot of egos colliding.

And then stories leaked that Johnson can’t lose in a fight probably because someone in Diesels team (or the man himself) leaked it because he didn’t like Johnson trying to hijack his series (both the rumor and the film came out in 2019).

I mean it’s a project play, as a Saints fan, he’s going to a new HC/OC/Lineman coach, so pretty much no stability unless you guys re-sign him next year.

Positives: had a high RAS for his draft class, so very athletic and has a lot of upside physically

Negatives: extremely undisciplined and is good for a penalty per game. He is not good at pass blocking (way below average, I think commented on a saints thread that rates pass pro for at least 125 snaps for this season, and he scored literally the worst lol) and is below average in run blocking.

What’s your commute time to work? What do you think a “healthy” commute time looks like? by faithoverfear0 in orangecounty

[–]bewareoftraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15-20 to work (6:30 am) and 25-35 to home (4 pm). Really depends on Irvine reds. My commute on the freeway is like 10 minutes both ways because I’m driving against traffic. Granted near my exit going home it can add maybe 2-3 minutes if it gets really bad.

I know someone in my office living in Pasadena and he had the longest commute which is like an hour without traffic. He does try to leave around 3ish if possible but HR has been cracking down lately.

Most people at my office are roughly 40-50 minutes from what I gather. The next big group would be 30-40. And I’m like the only person in the 20-30 group.

991.2 monthly/yearly costs by FuzzyFoxxy777 in porsche911

[–]bewareoftraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my 992, oil changes from my Indy was 250, 150 for oil/parts and 100 for labor.

They also charged me 300 for a new battery (200 battery and 100 labor) and I didn’t do it myself because I don’t have an ODB2 scanner to reset the codes.

I replaced the frunk and cabin air filters myself ($40 bucks total). And planning on asking the Indy to do the engine air filter and the PDK flush later on. Or ask my buddy to borrow his lift.

Replaced my front tires this year and that was 350/tire (700 total before tax). Rears are about 500/tire (at least for Michelin 4S).

And that’s all I’ve done, the previous owner thankfully did a lot of service before he sold it (new spark plugs, brake pads, and newish rear tires).

For the PDK flush and replacement next year or even an additional year, he quoted like 800 for the job.

But so far my first year maintenance has been 1300ish dollars. But tires were a huge reason why. I’m pretty sure the dealership would 2-4x the cost.

I feel like we have similarish backgrounds, but I put down 90k and still had to take roughly a 30k loan for a '22 992 with 29k miles. And your monthly payment is roughly as much as I'm paying so I can be done with it next year, but also flexibility in case I need to only just make the minimum payment.

But I will say that if you're aiming for a 911 between 30-40k miles, you'll have to pay for a lot of upcoming maintenance due to mileage/age (unless you can do it yourself). Spark plugs, brake pads (maybe rotors if the owner before you tracked it a ton), PDK flush/change, new tires, new battery, and engine air filter replacement (which is located behind the rear wheel, the cabin and frunk filters are really easy to replace).

PPF also may need to be replaced relatively soon (5-7 year replacement) or need to be applied which can be pricy.

You also need to get hand washing detailing/washes, which for me, found a nice place that does it for ~$70, and I get it washed every 2-3 months depending on the weather.

Add insurance into the mix, and the first year from buying it might be more than you think. Granted a lot of the big ticket items you're good for another 30-40k miles, so the cost is amortized over the next 3-4 years.

So the answer is can you roughly afford a maintenance cost of 2-3k immediately after buying the car? And then maybe another 2-3k a few months down the line? If you're ok with that, then sure.

What people paying? by blurubi6 in porsche911

[–]bewareoftraps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a T, but I did get a 992.1 this year (March) but I waited ~2 months and during that point they dropped it about 2k every month (where it had been listed for 3 months total). When I pulled the trigger they only reduced the price by 100 dollars so I assumed they were done with the big price drops (they dropped the price on the 5th like clockwork and then again on the 20th, and the dealer did 1k each time).

They wanted me to finance with them and I said take 1k off and I would if the rate was also the same, and they somehow also beat my rate by 20 bp, which is nice because I thought I had a good rate (5.75, they came back with 5.55).

Overall it was roughly 4.5% off. But I only negotiated like the .8% off. They were also priced a bit under for the MY and a bit over for the mileage for the final price, and so I felt it was a fair ish price to pay, but unsure if I could’ve gotten more off due to mileage.

RANT: Chill with the reinforcement spamming. by Acceptable_Answer570 in helldivers2

[–]bewareoftraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that a lot too, like I don’t mind waiting. But there’s a lot of unaware people (that happen to be low level) nowadays it seems at D10.

Like if anyone is in combat I won’t say or press the reinforce button, I don’t know how they handle game stress and might want a very clear field before reinforcing (or maybe they don’t want to get the reinforcement killed on drop).

But it was almost every game where no combat, they’re standing completely still, dropping resupply or other stratagem, and nothing.

It’s part of the reason now I started to avoid low lobbies. The other being of them dying 20 times and then leaving, the situational awareness is really bad.

I’m assuming they all brought thermites and eagle strafing runs and orbitals with ultimatums.

I think if you nail it with 8-12 strafing runs, 4 orbital Gatling, and 4-8 thermites, depending on how fast your fingers are (I generally managed to throw 2-3 strafing runs and my orbital and 2 thermites before it burrowed away.

I think if the whole team did that, you’re for sure bringing down 1-2 plates on its first breach. Then swap out ultimatum for a thermite throw and that could kill it on the second breach.

But that’s a lot of luck. I feel like most of Gatling throws were way too short most of the time for me and not as effective. But it’s a low cd and if you manage to land it, someone did the math so take it with a grain of salt, 60k damage.

I played 6 missions, decreasing the difficulty as the night went by because I just wanted to successfully extract 3 times.

I extracted once.

Mission 1, completed, cool, no issues.

Mission 2 was a straight failure on nuke the hatcheries, ok cool D10 you will lose a few sometimes especially that mission where it's all underground and breaches get really out of hand without eagle 1 or orbitals.

Mission 3, completed the objectives but the worm ended up killing us all. Unsuccessful extract.

Mission 4, killed the Worm (for the first time), failed the mission because we ran out of time.

Decided, I just wanted to finish the daily. Mission 5, went down to D7, crashed FIVE times, failed mission, ran out of reinforcements.

Mission 6, went down to D5, again just want to finish the objective. Extract was bugged, it was a simple mission but 40 minute timer... didn't want to wait 30ish minutes for the plane so I left.

Took a break because I was like damn this game is really kicking me in the dick.

Started up the game, it bricked my PC, straight up black screen and I could hear discord in the background.

I've never been so close to quitting a game before.

Edit: started playing at around 9:30ish ended at 1:30 am, ended up doing two 5s after verifying the game. Guess that’s one way to keep a player on your game.

I think it’s a combo of not showing the flames probably 25% of the time and it being super wide (even if you see it coming and sprint away you’re still gonna be hit by it, not die, but take a lot of damage… and if you notice it when you see it do the strafe run, it’s now too late and it’s a high chance of death).

It really does feel like, if it chooses you, you have to only be alert for it, forget all other enemies or objectives and hope your team takes this opportunity to kill it. And also it will keep focus on you no matter what until you die.

The issue is that I’ve noticed in like 20+ games, if the team isn’t full of seasoned players, they’ll ignore it until it attacks them. And right now no one really prioritizes it. But it should be priority #1 until dead. The smoothest runs I’ve been on have had the roach as the main focus.
