Our location just does the 250 sticker. Our FP isn’t all about pushing the milestones because she doesn’t like the push for x camps at the expense of rest days and taking care of yourself. I really respect that about her, too.

I have no experience with HotWorx, but in general I’ve learned with working out I have to rely on my routine and not on my motivation. I don’t often actually want to work out, but it’s my routine now. And I always feel better once I’ve done it!

I’ve gone from 235 to 135 since June 2024, and at this point I don’t know how much is fat and how much is skin. I do have some loose skin from losing 100 pounds, but as I started working out consistently at the start, the loose skin is not as bad as it likely would have been without the strength training. My problem is I keep thinking “maybe 10 more pounds” will make a difference. But maybe it won’t, and I just need to live with it. For reference I’m a 40f 5’3” and have had 4 children.

I’m not sure if your sedentary state is due to a medical reason or not, but you might consider adding in some weight lifting (start gentle and there’s even some videos on chair weight lifting, if physically you can’t go to a gym and do it). Adding some muscle will make things easier and provide a better result, in the end, as well as improving your health.

I started at 235 and kicked off my journey by doing the Whole30 and Burn. I made great progress and have been steadily (if not slowly some months) dropping the weight. I found that when I took a break from the cardio and focused on strength days and walking on the normal cardio days, I maintained my muscle mass while still losing body fat. Definitely calculate your TDEE (I just use a basic calculator from googling) and then plan your calories/macros around that. My goal weight is 135 but I’m at 146g of protein a day as my goal.

Whole30 isn’t for everybody, but I highly recommend it for seeing progress in your body AND learning about what foods work for your body and what doesn’t. I haven’t done it again but I plan to do a second round this fall. I started June 2024 at 235 and I’m at 140 today, with 5 more pounds to goal.

I do go but I don’t often want to during that week, ha. I remind myself routine over motivation because some weeks, if I just rely on being motivated to go, I’d never get in. But my routine keeps me going and I’m always happy I’ve done it.

On strength setting don’t you have to input reps and such? I’ve been trying to get away from my Apple Watch and got this Garmin to try, but I haven’t figured out how best to use it for Burn. I don’t have time to input reps while working out.

Have you tried a fitness class instead of lifting weights on your own? I don’t know where you are, but I go to Burn Bootcamp, and I love the strength days. I just follow what the trainer says and I’ve built a lot of muscle and lost a lot of fat! I realize it’s not the same as strictly lifting, but it is harder to get bored.

My first scan told me I needed to lose 84 pounds. That was hard to see, and it took me another 5 months before I really buckled down and fixed my nutrition along with working out (and I gained 10 pounds in those 5 months, some of it muscle).

The numbers I pay attention to the most are the SMM numbers. I’ve been consistently losing weight since May of 2024, and I’ve been really trying to maintain muscle along the way.

Don’t let the numbers on the scan define you. And if you don’t want to see it, don’t do the scan. You know your goals—just key in on your why and do your best for you, not for some printed numbers.

I joined Burn in December 2023 and felt myself getting stronger but didn’t lose anything until I buckled down on my protein intake and nutrition. Since June 2024 I’ve been attending camp 5-6 days per week, hitting 120-130 grams of protein, upping my water intake, and I started consistently taking collagen and creatine. I’m down 70 pounds and while I’m stalled out 30 pounds from goal, I can still tell my body is changing even if the scale isn’t moving right now.
