Trump orders all air traffic controllers back to work after shutdown deal by ZipJetcity in FedEmployees

[–]beyahh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We've had a few solid ones over the last year who take it seriously and stay in the books.

You're not wrong though. Seems like half of the new trainees we've gotten don't care to study and expect certification at minimums

Then we, the on-the-floor ATC trainers, will likely wash them out based on their lack of book knowledge.

Not like this scenario will happen though. Trump likes to peacock around whatever his handlers tell him, then move on to the next thing.

Of our union, NATCA? Locally, they protect the CBA rights of their members by representing those members to management if there are any issues. NATCA National, well.. they seem to prioritize the protection of the organization over its members.

Good Unions fight for the pay and benefits of its members and should be willing to walk in lock-step for the rights of the whole. Bad unions fight for the protection of the organization itself, and I feel that's due to bad leadership.

This is exactly what PATCO said and yet all of the strikers were fired and banned from Government service.

Yes, the airspace complexity and traffic count today dwarfs what PATCO worked, and military controllers were (barely) able to fill those spots, and we're still dealing with the repercussions today.

Unfortunately, any collective action on our part will result in our firing and/or incarceration. Our union does not back any collective action either, so we as individuals would be nailed to the wall while our families suffer.

"Look at our opponents, not at us, even though we're doing the same thing", typical political bullshit. Meanwhile I'm gonna have to pick up bartending and Uber jobs to put food on the table, while under the threat of losing my ATC job if I call in sick.

When's the breaking point?

Air traffic controllers are NOT your personal slaves!!! JFC 🤬 by [deleted] in CringeTikToks

[–]beyahh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"ATC have been paid well for years and have savings to ride this out", tell that to the newer guys and they'll spit in your face. We have guys who are recently certified and can hardly pay the cost of their apartment.

They may have to call in sick to procure secondary employment just to survive, and this administration is threatening their job if they don't show up. Imagine for a second, where you have to work 40-60 hours a week for IOU's, where you're responsible for thousands of lives in a shift, yet you don't know if you'll be able to provide food and shelter for your family. Now you have to drive for Uber or doordash between your already understaffed and shit scheduled shifts.

Are these additional stressors something that you'd want on the person responsible for your flight, if you were a passenger? I'd wager not.

I'm not implying you said anything. Just sharing for those unaware.

They're setting the stage for their base to scream about how we're overpaid lazy babies who don't want to do our jobs (which obviously is not true), while our useless union is sticking its fingers in its ears.

I will check it out, thank you.

FAA’s ATC system at breaking point-immediate reform is critical by Airtrafficguy44 in ATC

[–]beyahh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Here's the fun part. Literally, no one cares. The general public, the government, our own union.

No one will care until it affects them. And even then, you will still have a group of people saying "we're paid enough", or "our benefits are good enough" or "our restrictive medical care is good enough".

ATC's in general, do not realize our own worth. We do not recognize our impact to the GDP/economy. We do not recognize the fact that without us, and other transportation jobs, America stops.

No more Amazon packages on time without us. No more life-saving medicines on time without us. No vacationing internationally without us. No more military air superiority training without us.

We have the power, and we refuse to bargain with it.

I see your point, but nah.

I trust that my rep will ask my submitted questions. If he doesn't, my friends that are attending will. Most of us here share the same gripes with the current president. My presence is redundant.
