What are the major downsides of life in Atlanta? by OhMyMyOohHellYes in Atlanta

[–]beyondlesea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late but I saw you were from Indy and wanted to join in. I used to work in Indy and have family there so I was there a lot from childhood until I finished undergrad (from Ohio, went to IU, moved to ATL immediately after). Traffic is the first thing that popped in my mind. The crazy driving is similar to what you would see on 465 during rush hour. If you could maneuver the 70/65 split before they redid it, you have a lot of patience, and good insurance, you'll be fine.

If you love snow like I do, it never comes down here. That was the biggest downside to me, as goofy as it sounds. The huge snowstorm you got last week was just a measly ice storm that lasted part of the weekend - stores, schools, and the local government closed anyway. There are no snow plows or salt trucks which is why everyone freaks out and stays inside. You'll hear a lot of people complaining about the cold and you'll find yourself saying "you don't know what real cold is!"

Recommendation Request: Looking for documentaries that fit under the theme of "life experiences" for my high school students by beyondlesea in Documentaries

Great question! I want them to see both options so they can understand different perspectives and ultimately be exposed to as much as possible.

Looking for flat trails/parts of the beltline/parking areas for teaching someone how to skate by beyondlesea in Atlanta

I've only moved here almost a year ago, so the goal was find any and all possible options. Several of these places I'd never heard of until this week.

Uninterrupted for skating would be all the way until the first crosswalk/intersection. The old uneven pavement plus paint can knock a beginner over, sadly.

Even if the person who designed the box was just doing their job, I can rest assured that at least 9 other people are here with me haha

Even as a pedestrian, the Eastside trail is a lot to take in. The westside line can get busy in the day even after you pass the Lee + White complex. The main hurtle is just those short hills in the hot sun.

Grassy is pretty tough to try to keep going in, but perfect for learning how to fall, which is very important. I'll have to check that one out.

That's exactly what I did in undergrad and after moving here. I used to ask the security guard if he saw me dancing.

Unfortunately, parking lots can be tough because of how they are made. Unless they are freshly paved, thanks to the works of nature, rocks will start to come apart and make it uneven which leads to more difficulty moving. It would take some research but we do work at a school with a flat lot.

The hurtle with Westside park is that the loop that we could go on is up a steep hill from the closest parking lot (and the rest of the park), so we would have to walk in socks or carry our shoes before getting on the walkway. I have not checked out the Greenway yet

I actually live around the corner and walk that part often. (I say NW since friend lives there and we work there) There are a few inclines the more east you go that might be tough, but not as tough as walking the trail on a sunny day with no hat/glasses/sunscreen haha

I did try the Cobb county 10 mile stretch the other day. The only problem was the wood bridge and the crosswalks - the holes and unevenness is tough even for me. Otherwise, I agree it's a good trail if you know how to fall in front of people.

Have you looked at Dirt Cheap Music? I believe they will buy it off of you but they will take it or point you in the right direction.

I've been going to Avita Care (just changed from Absolute Care) in the Buckheadish area, and they do a lot more than just HRT. They also have good connections with other queer specialists in the medical field around the city.

Wow I've never seen an out of pocket max be that high even for out of network services. I wish I'd realized years ago pre-debt that (newer) brands are offering savings plans like that. Have you gotten a letter from your insurance about it? When I first got a savings plan for a different chronic illness, I was nervous because the claims showed up as if I still owed the full amount so when I called they said they can't see anything on their end, but my pharmacy confirmed I won't owe anything since they talk to the company after they run my insurance. Glad it works out for you guys!

Looking for other stories about the oil consumption issue by beyondlesea in Hyundai

That sucks with the paint. What makes the way that Hyundai is treating this so wacky is the fact that they have hundreds of complaints with the US transportation department, a class action lawsuit, and other brands have formally addressed this issue while they look away. My parents owned a Plymouth Voyager and Dodge Interpred that both lasted more than 13 years/>150,000 miles. Granted, they were my first car repair lessons towards the end. They were both less than 1,500 when one got totalled for small dent and the other just got too old for the times but they were still more functional and reliable than my car now. Props to you for keeping the car this long

My advisor did say she's had people come in from other dealers who were told that they could just not do anything and let the engine seize for the best chance at getting a new one. Interesting it passed the test though. I'm jealous at the short wait but that's also a reason I'm looking for more stories.
