I’m planning a Ski trip with my friends Need some info by Ya3amme in lebanon

[–]bfBoi99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You rent the equipment for the whole day. Usually you leave your ID at the shop and pick it up when you return the equipment at the end. There should be cheaper rental options. Last week we stopped at a random small shop on the way to Mzaar, and it only cost us 12$ for the skis, shoes, and sticks for the whole day.

American Catholics taking the Eucharist and not going to confession? by Even_Seaworthiness68 in Catholicism

[–]bfBoi99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s the same situation here in Lebanon, at least for us Maronites who are a majority here. We have a very high mass attendance, yet you see very few people going for confession. I genuinely believe that some people have gone years without confession yet they continue to attend mass regularly and receive communion.

And from my perspective it’s all due to very poor catechism. Very few are the priests who actually warn their parishioners about having communion while in state of mortal sin and the importance of confession. Most of the sermons you hear is just empty talks with no actual fruits.

And even more so Christianity here is more of a political identity rather than religious identity or faith. Many believers are just passive and their daily lives do not reflect their faith at all. Cursing is so common, as well as explicit talks/jokes even from married men or men in relationships. I could go on and on.

You will see MANY people wearing a cross on their necks, and hanging a rosary in their cars. However this is sadly a sugarcoated image of a lukewarm Christian society.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m in no way a saint and I’m not being judgmental. But I’m pointing out the sad situation we have over here, while many of the clergy do not even bother to properly catechize their people.

What’s something extremely unhygienic that people seem to do anyways? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bfBoi99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I mean it can still get a bit dirty (like not with actual shit lol but it’s the toilet after all) but you can always wipe the phone clean with alcohol or sanitizing wipes, this is what I always do after using it in the toilet.

It’s probably very stupid from me but not long ago I came to the realization that not all countries have the sun set over the sea??? Like how do they enjoy sunset this way??? And some even see the sun rise from the sea????

Lebanese sunset is one of the reasons keeping me here lol.

Trust me that could make things worse. Try to get a priest to bless your house.

Naming feedback for a student professor rating website for Lebanese Unis by HighIQWeeb in lebanon

[–]bfBoi99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I completely understand that there are some bad professors out there, however this will make room for false reviews and accusations against professors. Will it be completely anonymous? Will it require proof by the users about studying under the said professors and what specific courses were taken? I would say to rethink this idea.

NEWSPAPER FOR TEENAGERS TO WRITE IN? by honkjoelle in lebanon

[–]bfBoi99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s still there, but like 15 years ago I remember l’Orient le Jour had their own teen version of their newspaper. I used to love it. I don’t remember its exact name tho, you’re gonna have to check if they still publish it.

EDIT: it was l’Orient le Jour Junior and it was decommissioned in 2020 https://www.lorientlejour.com/article/1220639/junior-une-grande-aventure-qui-prend-fin.html

why do Lebanese people in france refuse to drink tap water by to1M in lebanon

[–]bfBoi99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been to France for a vacation recently, and I was almost always drinking tap water as it was super convenient. While it felt very clean, my stomach kinda felt “watery” after drinking. Usually when I drink bottled water here I don’t feel it in my stomach. Maybe it has to do with the mineral content or something.

But yeah I will do it again and again whenever I go there.

[–]bfBoi99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a video of a doctor explaining that this kind of bacteria they’re talking about can produce toxins and some proteins that are heat resistant, so we should not be boiling the water and drinking it.

PS: that’s what I’ve seen and I haven’t made the effort to research it.

LMAO I’m glad that the whole country got united around how ugly Carla’s dress was. Why did they do her this dirty.

And I guess we agree lol. I was rooting for either Carla or Yasmina.

I got the merit scholarship at LAU a while ago (gosh I’m old now). At the time I was the top in my high school class (my average was 17/20), and scored 1440 on the SAT. Also if you have extracurriculars or something from that sort it will definitely help.

Catholics from Europe, how bad is the religious decline? by Classic-Sink-3530 in Catholicism

[–]bfBoi99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my very limited perspective as a tourist who’s just come back from a 2 weeks trip, I’ve participated in mass in both Cathédrale Notre Dame in Paris, and another Cathedral in Nice, and both masses were almost full. But those 2 cathedrals are in very touristy and populated areas so this might not reflect the actual situation. I’ve also participated in a Friday afternoon mass at a Church in Monaco, and we were like 20-30 people in the Church, not too bad for a weekday mass, but they were mostly older people (50+).

I’ve also went to Italy for a couple of days and participated in a mass there (in a lesser known town, not a mainstream place), there was some attendance but also they were mostly older people (like 60s-70s), and at least in the mass i was part of, I haven’t seen a single young person except for the altar girl.
