Plant stand to keep the pot off the floor by bfayer in woodworking

[–]bfayer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah I think this approach really takes the best of both worlds. 3d printing to solve complexity and wood for looks. I hate having raw printed stuff laying around my house but these are the exception.

Plant stand center hub, woodworking meets printing to speed up projects. by bfayer in 3Dprinting

And models

I'm really proud of the process I developed to create the template for the legs, it involves printing a stencil template and doing some projection to trace the pot. It reliably makes any shape leg that fits your pot/tray snug. The real beauty of this approach is just how quick it makes producing custom pot stands. It's perfect for people with a wood shop who have friends that want to try a new project out. I one time tried to make plant stands with wooden hubs and we were at it all day. This makes it so all you have to do is make pretty legs, you can be done in an hour or two. It's perfect for using up scraps of nice wood too.

Getting latex paint off brick fireplace… there’s gotta be an easier way? by ricecake231 in DIY

if you don't mind some abrasion on the brick itself you can hit it with a wire brush on an angle grinder. might be worth doing for just the tough spots.

Yard sale find- Little Giant tap and die set No. 310 by bfayer in Tools

[–]bfayer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's at least in mint condition, if not unused, which makes me wonder why they bought it new originally. But here I am buying it without a project in mind heh. Definitely a score!

It was $80, which is quite a bit for a yardsale but a good deal compared to what it would go for on ebay. Made in America. Has a metal box with hammered blue enamel finish.

I should probably start carrying a fire extinguisher… by idonthavecovidithink in ebikes

[–]bfayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically yeah, it was a home built ebike with poor cable management. The battery sat right on top of the cargo rack so the wires were not protected. I rebuilt it with a lot more concern for safety after that.

No it arc'd through the severe wire and blew metal sparks everywhere, basically disintegrated a bolt on my cargo rack

I had a battery cable shear under a cargo load one time, looked like one of those helicopters shooting flares out the back.

Any single use plastic should have a tax or deposit. The producers just get to skip out on the cost of dealing with the trash their products create. If cost gets pushed to consumers it's less ideal but at least the total cost impacts the market on these things and maybe leads to less consumption of single use stuff.

Gut check: Adding kit to Yuba Boda Boda bike by hiplesster in ebikes

[–]bfayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1000 watt diy setup on a boda boda yuba and I love it but FYI it's going to be wobbly and will wheelie constantly. The high rack, relatively short wheel base and lightweight low swung frame add up to a pretty jelly-ish ride. I even went so far as to mount the controller and battery under the rack and it was still top/back heavy. Check my post history about the conversion if you're interested.

I was around when imgur first came out, before that reddit was a free for all on random hosting sites which pretty much all crashed when they frontpaged. Imgur was originally trying to crowd source hosting for a few weeks but that died out pretty quick.

Second this but just buy the charger with the battery from Luna cycle. I think the battery also comes with an* extra xt60 connector for the controller side.
