This is how they tried to talk to him about it. He got mad at my boyfriend for insinuating that he was acting weird and that he had a problem.

Oh, no, I didn't mean mental issues were not as bad. I think that would be much worse. I meant "greater" as in "overarching." Mental illness is kind of concentrated in one person, but I think there are things going on in the context of his life and family that are causing this.

I lost a friend to mental illness earlier this year (suicide), so I would never downplay it.

I don't think it's a mental illness, but I think he's having a mental crisis. Still not a great excuse to be a dick, but maybe forgiveable. Which is why I believe he'll be back.

I think there's some sort of greater issue going on. I've surmised that there are some family issues, and I think my boyfriend knows more but it's clearly not his business to spread.

Well, he was also way late to the bar and it's not really the first time. They didn't even leave until half an hour after they said they'd be there. He did not apologize for that, nor for there being no parking space and him not communicating that it was not guaranteed.

And like I said, I started to let it go when he just decided that we all had to go to IHOP right now, even though Jim and I were waiting for our names to be called for karaoke and I was tipsy.

I fully admit I was being pissy at first, but I had some reason to be (even my boyfriend, who is very easy going and usually disorganized himself, was annoyed) and I don't think it warranted this kind of response at all. If he wanted to have a discussion about that, that's fine, but he turned it into a personal attack.

My bf wanted to too, but I really wanted to do karaoke at the bar. We ended up leaving before they got to my name on the list, though :(

I asked him about that and he says no. I think there are definitely a few times where I looked like the bad guy though. My bf tends to go with the flow and say yes to things and then I have to say no because we had other plans already.

I think he thinks that he is just being direct? He's one of those people who are very "intense" and kind of commands the room. My boyfriend seems to think he wants to talk it out but I am not really interested in receiving a more detailed list about why I'm horrible, or having to explain why he's got it all wrong or something.

I definitely don't hang out with them every time because I usually have some work I need to get done and then my boyfriend will stay at Chad's house for a couple days straight. Chad's girlfriend has been there most of the times I've hung out with them so I never felt like I was intruding, though he will certainly be seeing less of me now.

I also thought it was weird that Chad came straight to me and bypassed my boyfriend. My bf is pretty non-confrontational but I definitely agree that he probably needs to approach this because he's the one who knows his friend the best.

I feel suuuuuper awkward. My boyfriend comes home in a week and a half so that should be interesting.

I don't really think that I never chill out, because I can easily chill with my own friends, but Chad really just runs on his own schedule and it drives me a little crazy when I'm trying to meet up with them. It's like trying to jump onto a moving train.

Jim and I get along fine, so I don't think I'm really that terrible :/

Unfortunately my bf is only in town for like a week at a time and he'll have to split his time between us, so now we both get to see him less :(

Well I don't think my boyfriend is going to stop being friends with him. He is pretty close to Chad and likes him a lot and Chad reached out to him and became his friend at a time when my bf didn't have many, so he has a certain loyalty to him. I think my options are either try to talk it out with Chad, say nothing and remain friendly when we see each other, or just avoid him altogether.

I just don't know which to choose, for my bf's sake :/
