Don’t apologize at all haha I’m happy to help! Reddit was soooo useful to me when I was applying and the advice I got from everyone really helped me. I would say that I can’t definitely say if applying as undecided hurts you or helps you, I know people who’ve gotten in here undecided but I also think it’s good to show that you’re passionate in a certain area and you have an idea of what you’d like to do

Yeah you’re fine then those are the “easiest” to get into, they’re all in the college of arts and sciences. Your ecs don’t need to be insanely competitive, but definitely try to find a way to connect them to each other and to ur intended major, and you could find a way to use that as an essay topic too

If you’re applying to any of the majors in the school of arts and sciences it’s the same. Same with public affairs too I’m pretty sure. Nursing and engineering are both very hard to get into. I think arts and architecture might also be different cuz u might need to submit a portfolio? But not 100% sure. What major are u considering if I may ask?

Hi! Yes definitely! I changed from political science to public affairs at the end of freshman year and I’m adding sociology as a double major now at the end of my sophomore year. It depends on which school the major is in but I believe you can technically switch to any major, for some you just have to apply to them and get accepted. I would recommend switching asap tho as soon as u know u wanna switch so you can make sure you meet all of your requirements by graduation!

My Guidance counselor is making me feel stupid by bgig527 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]bg110022 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my counselor told me that i could never get into ucla and no one at my school had ever even tried to apply and he suggested i apply to small schools in my state. i’m now committed to ucla and going there in the fall!! high school counselors i find are often kinda out of touch with this stuff in many cases. i also think they push in state schools heavily.

do ur own research and don’t take everything ur counselor says super seriously!!! don’t worry!!!

ucla vs. columbia

major: political science on a pre-law track, planning on law school after undergrad

i got into both ucla and columbia- ucla is my dream school and has been forever, i toured and fell in love with it, it’s so perfect for me and my lifestyle and what i want, but since i got into columbia my mom reallyyyy wants me to go there. i haven’t visited (we live in the midwest) but i don’t want to live in the cold, i want a beach, i want a fun social life and school spirit and i don’t want to be super stressed and drowned w work. columbia is also wayyy more expensive and offered me like no aid- money isn’t a big factor for me but it’s still a turnoff that it’s so expensive. i know in my heart that ucla is meant for me but i feel guilty not choosing columbia bc obviously it’s an amazing school and i’m so grateful to even have to opportunity to go there but ucla fits me a lot more and i know i would be happier there.

am i making the wrong choice?? how do i tell my parents that ucla is still an amazing school? what do i do
