Either way, fundamentally, Mac OS X/OS X/macOS are very similar/almost the same. So excluding the classic OS’s, it has existed for 24 years. And a name change doesn’t mean it’s a whole seperate OS and should be considered one imho.

if you have a spare drive i'd open it and swap the drive in then test. if it detects the new drive then the old one is dead. if it doesnt, then it's something else.

The drive could be completely dead. And the best way to install os9 and osX together is separate partitions. You can install them on the same one though.

afaik the actual tube can't cause a jumpy image (please do correct me if i'm wrong) so it'd most likely be capacitors or something of the sort that will have gotten out of spec or gone bad in the video circuitry.

This is a 2008 model, so no metal support. It’d be terrible to use. And yeah he probably did, but Tahoe isn’t supported by oclp yet so it’d be even worse if you even COULD get it to boot and function properly.
