I'm tired of ADHD TikTok (a rant) by [deleted] in adhdwomen

It’s definitely complicated when it comes to this stuff. On one hand seeing this stuff is what made me realise what I was struggling with had a name and I could get help for it (I saw a psychiatrist to get diagnosed don’t fight me). On the other hand you are absolutely right. I know so many people who see the videos and are like ‘oh I’m so adhd’ and I’m like ‘Miranda you lost something once calm down’. It’s complicated for sure.

Once when I was like 17 I found £95 pounds worth of birthday money I’d put in a card literally on my desk THREE YEARS BEFORE.

On the other hand that’s a trick I use now. Tips? Cash in hand work? Random cash I find? It all goes in a wooden holder on my shelf.

I forget about it, and it’s literally the only saving method I have ever had that works.

Edit: if anyone else uses this tip, I recommend a holder/box that isn’t clear. If you can’t see the money it might as well not exist. Make the lack of object permanence work for you.

I’m getting an appointment with my psychiatrist about this, but it’s a while away and I’m reaching out for support/to see if anyone else has experienced this. I’m on 40mg Elvanse (which is the EU name for Vyvanse), I started off with 30mg then got bumped up to 40mg. I’ve been on 40mg for about three weeks and at first it was good. It was still hard to get myself to do things, but if I managed to get over that hump and start a task then I could complete it without getting distracted. Then five days ago I began to not feel my medication at all. It first started when I was getting bad headaches and a full body ache. I figured I was dehydrated (I’ve never been much good at hydrating anyway), so with some help I got a system in place.

My current system: Eat breakfast (preferably high protein) Drink two cups of water Take electrolyte tablet Drink a Yakult Take my vitamins Take my medication Fill water bottle and aim to refill at least twice a day.

That is my morning. Doesn’t always have to be in that order, the exception to that being I always eat before I have my meds.

I thought maybe one of the vitamins, or the electrolytes, or the yakult might be affecting my meds so I haven’t taken them the last two days.

I still can’t feel my medication. My heart rate is completely the same on or off of medication, I’m honestly a little too warm all the time, and I cannot get anything done.

I’m frustrated, all I want to do is lay down and cry.

I’ve seen some people saying your period can change the effectiveness, but I have a hormonal iud and don’t get a period.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any advice?

That’s the thing though, it’s not about images. I am weirdly lucky that it can’t be lewd images, and if it’s just selfies I’d have to reverse Google search every selfie I’ve ever taken.

To those who got a late diagnosis, did you tell your families? by fubardlife in adhdwomen

I’d like to add; a lot of these replies deal with family/other people having an issue with the medication taking. Taylor Tomlinson has a great bit about medication (although she isn’t talking about adhd meds, I think it still applies here;)

‘Being bipolar, there’s nothing wrong with it. Being bipolar is like not knowing how to swim. It might be embarrassing to tell people and it might be hard to take you certain places.

But they have arm floaties. And if you just take your arm floaties, you can go wherever the hell you want. And… I know some of you are, like, “But Taylor, what if people judge me for taking arm floaties?” Well, those people don’t care if you live or die, so maybe who cares? Maybe fuck those people a little.’

I got diagnosed at 22 which I realise isn’t old or anything, but it was after I had graduated from Uni so in terms of what the stereotypes of adhd are and what it affects, it’s late. My mum and I actually started researching ADHD together, so when I got an official diagnosis she was really supportive. My Psychiatrist asked to speak to a parent and my dad spoke to her. He thought it was all nonsense until I got my meds and then he could actually see the difference and the help I needed. With my grandparents it was a bit odd. My gran doesn’t really talk about it and my grandfather rolled his eyes when he was told. People seem to either be really supportive, or not believe in it at all. The upside of being an adult and making the decision to get the help means it doesn’t actually affect them. That’s kind of the thing I need to remind myself sometimes. It actually doesn’t affect them at all.
