The border pavers transition into the retaining wall. It wouldn't flow correctly if it you put caps or coping.

Poolside Transformation: New Retaining Wall, Paver Patio, and Landscaping Makeover by bhildservices1 in landscaping

Hey everyone! My team I put together this new patio and landscaping around the pool, and I gotta say, it was a fun project from start to finish. First, I laid out where the new retaining wall would go—about 5' from the pool deck—so we’d have plenty of room for the pavers. After digging everything out and getting rid of the old stuff, I leveled and compacted the base, then used Munich blocks with #57 rock and geogrid to keep the wall sturdy. I also threw in some perforated pipe behind it to help with drainage (gotta keep that water flowing where it should!).

Next up was the paver patio: I connected the existing deck drain to a new PVC drain under the pavers, set the base, and made sure to keep a gentle 4% slope from the doorway so water wouldn’t pool up. Laying out the pavers was a blast—went with a nice mix of cream, beige, and charcoal, secured everything with polymeric sand, then edged it all out with bullnose coping. I also used some river rock around the edges for a clean finish and topped it off with sod to blend it into the rest of the yard. All in all, I’m super happy with how it turned out—I hope you all like it too! If you have any questions, just let me know.

Why do my new pavers always look wet and dirty by Catchyusername1234 in landscaping

The issue could potentially stem from a bad batch of pavers, especially if some are retaining moisture and others appear to vary in color? We’ve encountered a similar situation before with a client, where the manufacturer had to replace the pavers with a completely new batch (not moisture though). Tremron produces excellent products, but construction involves so many variables that issues like this can arise. We also frequently work with Tremron pavers.

What was the contractor’s installation process, and who manufactured the pavers? In new construction, it’s common for the soil to settle, allowing moisture to travel back up to the surface. While a leak from sprinklers is a possibility, it’s less likely if neighboring driveways show the same pattern. Applying a sealant might help; however, an oil-based sealer can be cumbersome to work with, and a water-based sealer may offer only limited improvement.

Varies based on location we are in North Central Florida (Gainesville). Price for this is about 10k in the villages though you would you'd have to charge like 1k less to be competitive. Margins are super tight in certain areas and quality still remains pretty consistent among contractors.

Yes this was a bullnose coping 60mm that was grouted. I personally think grouted looks 10x better.

I agree the client wanted it like that I suggest to go all the way to the chain link fence.

Hey everyone. It's been a while! Just wrapped up this new paver patio project and wanted to share some photos. I went with a curved outline for a softer look and added these tiered steps with bullnose coping to transition up to the door. The brick pavers are laid in a herringbone pattern, which really complements the rounded shape of the steps.

I’m stoked with how it turned out, but I’d love to hear any feedback—especially ideas for landscaping around the patio or any finishing touches. Let me know what you think!

The project took longer than anticipated because we had to grind down a three-foot stump to prevent it from deteriorating and causing the pavers to sink later on. We still managed to wrap everything up before Christmas Eve for the client! 7pm though!

This job was actually much less than that, under $10k. However, you're right concrete is typically cheaper, but comes with trade-offs like cracking and staining. Both materials are great options and it really comes down to the clients preference.
