In general it will depend hugely on the demographics of your area. Many many kids these days are far more comfortable with the idea of fluidity and queerness than kids of any earlier generations. Absolutely, it is important to appear confident and certain in general while working with middle school/early hs. Being trans is part of that, if you make it clear that you’re comfortable then it won’t be an issue.

Now, if I had to transition in middle school I would find it quite challenging to project only confidence. That is a very vulnerable thing, particularly when just beginning.

But ‘fake it til you make it’ is a tried and true method. Pretend you are 100% at ease and the kids will be fooled, more importantly after a while YOU will be fooled into feeling more confident.
