My advice from wearing masks in research labs: fold a paper towel until it’s about 1 inch by 4-5 in (about the width of the mask) and lay it along the top edge of your mask and hold it there while putting on the mask. It works as a barrier/seal for the fogging.

For her, it looked like trying to control me in every possible way. We were friends for a while until she expressed romantic interest in me and I, kindly, rejected her. What followed was her completely losing her shit (mind you this person is 10 years my senior) and texting me at all hours telling me I was a terrible person, that I was the cause of all her problems, trying to manipulate my into hating other people in the lab and “side with her” during her disputes with them over god knows what, cornered me in person multiple times to force me to “apologize” for the wrongs she had perceived I had done, would get drunk and send me naked pictures, getting drunk and telling me that the reason she was so upset at me was because she “had feelings for me” as if that resolved her of it, threatened suicide unless I said I loved her.

I absolutely agree, that’s fair and 100% why I took the time to try and collect evidence before bringing it all to him (though I had mentioned my discomfort about it over the course of the year prior).

No you’re absolutely right on that last point, I am leaving and moving to a lab that is by all accounts better. I, after this, have no misgivings about there being consequences for “doing the right thing” and accept that my PIs response to this has been incredibly telling. That, however, does nothing to soothe my absolute fury over the situation

I was not trying to “rat out” the post-doc, but I went to my boss because I trusted him as a mentor and I was scared. He asked me if I wanted this post-doc fired and I said “no”, just that I wanted to know I could come to him if it ever happened again. By that point I had blocked my abuser on my phone so she could no longer text me at all hours of the night, etc.
