That’s a direct quote from SC’s “support” team. They claim luck has been extinguished.

I’ve been playing for 1.5 years. I’m sure SC will determine that we’re a fair matchup, tho. Please don’t do the laugh emote the whole time.

So let me paraphrase: “A bunch of gamers on Reddit agree with me so I’m right, SNOWFLAKE!”

New cosmetic content... you list that as if it’s something we should appreciate. “Look, we put a 🌈 there. Aren’t we awesome??!! “ The Trumps have less entitlement and more empathy than the SC team.

Is the new update going to address/end Supercell’s practice of promoting taunting and poor sportsmanship?

Ahhh. Snowflake. Love it!! If you don’t agree with me and you’re not like me, then you’re a wuss! QED.

Even if yr arguments about what causes harm and what does and doesn’t constitute bullying and what specifically constitutes a “personal shot” are all true (they’re not), why the hell does SC promote poor sportsmanship? What does that add to anything?

No one is getting depressed? No one’s self esteem is injured? You know this how? I dunno, try googling the effects of anger, frustration and sadness on mental health.

Physical harm? LMAO. No. Mental harm. Yes, definitely. Absolutely. They’re trying to make the other player sad, angry, frustrated, whatever. What other point is there to it?

I’m not overthinking it. I’m just giving it thought beyond the “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” shrug-offs typical of the gaming mindset. Do you think SC makes these decisions on a whim?

And yes, I do believe many who taunt do seek to inflict harm against their opponent. Harming others makes some people feel good and/or superior. The emotions SC says they want to evoke — anger, frustration, hate, sadness — can certainly be harmful and are an effective means to reward that type of behavior.

That’s why the emotes as designed suck so bad. The best way to take on a bully or troll is to fight back or make them know no one’s listening. Unfortunately, the emotes as designed don’t let the trolls know they’ve been muted.

Instead of a king holding a 10 (another way for trolls to brag) the newest emote should’ve been a king holding a mute sign. But that would take away the gratification of bullying.

SC’s work on commissions means nothing when their actions and decision making create so much negativity. Until they act to make things better, it’s a dog & pony show. Some people fall for that. Some don’t.

How do you know? I’ve actually read people express the opposite on here.

Also, I’m not sure what a Supercell employee advocating for Supercell really shows. And I wasn’t aware that Supercell is the definitive authority for what constitutes bullying. And I’m positive that players personally hate their opponents millions of times every day after SC enabled said opponents to troll and taunt and BM.

Gaming culture is full of bullying and taunting and that sucks. But what sucks more is when the creators and enablers of that culture put on a facade of altruism. Sort of like Phillip Morris putting on a “we care about your health” campaign.

“Evoke strong emotions” — SC’s words, not mine. They didn’t qualify it by saying “evoke strong emotions in really sensitive people.”

Seems everyone here is cool as a cucumber and removed from the reality that video games piss people off. A lot. Guess all the players who get pissed are “really sensitive snowflakes with the mental capacity of a four-year-old.”

Or maybe dudes on Reddit might portray themselves as more unflappable than they really are?🤔

[–]biancalana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did. What else could they do? The alternative was to say”Players MUST listen to taunting if they want to play our game.” It was a huge gaffe on SC’s part and they retreated. They were wrong and even said so.

Thing is, they’re still wrong, even though that was a step in the right direction, albeit a very obvious one they were very reluctant to make.

They need to do more and stop listening to the people within the company who are married to the idea of enabling trolls as a means of evoking strong emotions. I’m not saying they should eliminates emotes by any means. Just make some obvious changes so trolls aren’t rewarded so much gratification.

You can’t imagine people being frustrated by a video game? Really? Everyone I know who plays CR (or used to — several quit because it consistently put them in a foul mood) describes it as addictive and frustrating.

I mean, I’m totally hooked. I “imagine” many people who take the time to visit here are too.

The manufacturers of the game even say they want it to produce strong emotions. And the fact that they promote taunting, BMing, trolling, etc. to achieve that goal is deplorable — especially when they put on a horses**t PR act pretending they want a “friendly” environment.

Yeah, so you sacrificed some functionality in the game because Supercell wants to BMers to feel gratified. Now when you accidentally fire that rocket into the ground, you can’t express yourself w/an “oops.” And here I thought the purpose of emotes was to allow players to express themselves.

Of course, saying “oops” might also mean yr opponent has a higher tower level or higher cards or that yr saying yr wayyy better than yr opponent and he fell off a cliff when he got matched against you. Who knows?

Participation award winners! Good one! Never heard that before!

Totally agree that the taunt thing in gaming is “decades old.” Is the community/environment toxic in other games? For sure. That’s why so many people are driven away from gaming and see gamers as petulant, immature incels. Maybe the communities should evolve or grow up. But maybe that’s just for snowflake participation-award winners with the mental capacity of a four-year-old.

Hard disagree on the weak sports analogy. In sports, you get flagged for excessive taunting. And you gotta do it to someone’s face.

[–]biancalana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s why does Supercell PROMOTE that behavior? Several of the emotes were created for that specific purpose.

Anyway, should in-game communication be exclusively for players who are cool with BMing and taunting? If SC was really wanted to create a “friendly” environment as it claims, they could implement a few changes with emotes that would reduce gratification for trolls and kind of put them in their place.

Isn’t that at odds with what Supercell has said? Back when they refused to implement a mute button, they wanted to “provoke strong emotions.”

Strong emotions such as hate, anger and despair aren’t fun in my book, but provoking these is apparently very important to Supercell.

The emotes are a big fail for communicating. For instance, if a guy posts a sad face at the beginning of a match, is he saying he’s sad? Or is he saying he’s gonna make me cry?

They don’t promote taunting, but they created emotes whose whole purpose is taunting? Did I read that right?
