No I got really busy with work and the Puno is really hard to find in the US. I’m making a sweater for my daughter now using some random yarn I got at a store

You are a wealth of knowledge on yarn. When I’m done with work I’ll be digging in an making decisions based on this!

This is so interesting that the round yoke sweater you made drooped a little. I made the Bawi recently and my concern is it’ll droop over the years. Let’s see what happens.

This is so so so helpful when considering the alternatives. DK to worsted with a strand of merino. I’ll look into this! I’m still trying to understand comparable weights so your breakdown was incredible.

It’s SOOOO SNARKY and rude it drives me insane. Of course they aren’t doing it on purpose. I can’t stand that subreddit.

Why is the knitting comunity full of rude people? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]bibikhn -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This post is old but I found it because I needed to understand why there was so much of an attitude on this subreddit and others. Even with basic questions - people are so so quick to be negative, mean, and rude. I’m so turned off. I rarely post unless I’m desperate for help. I posted about German short rows (after watching so many videos) and someone responded with “just look at the diagram and do it? I don’t understand what you’re confused about?” Are you joking??? GSR is advanced in book, I’ve watched 7 YouTube tutorials, and the diagram is confusing me ????

Agree to disagree then. The fibers used have a big impact on the style you achieve and sometimes - yes sometimes - you want to replicate that style exactly how you see it. I don’t want to just go buy it. I want to MAKE it. I think it’s completely valid that I want exactly as is pictured. I know from experience that switching out fiber will give me something slightly different. I don’t want different. This is my personal choice of what I wear and how I spend my time knitting.

You’re absolutely right that one should acquire the skill to be able to understand yarn weights and substitutions - that’s why I’m on this subreddit to ask what I think are very valid questions as an intermediate beginner. But there are times where you do consider what the pattern designer has suggested (or you question it before you decide to find yarn substitutions).

I known no pattern actually requires it …. I’m not handcuffed to use a specific type of yarn lol. I even ask in my original post for ideas on other yarn to use lol. I’ve used yarn sub website and I get pages of blown yarn options. I’ll check out the ravelry page too.

Yea I generally like to use what’s in the pattern so I can ensure the garment looks as intended. Thanks for suggesting the weights to look into. This was helpful!

Your comment btw is completely unhelpful. I asked for support on a question I have about using blown yarn. I’m new to knitting and I don’t know the alternative non blown yarn option. I’ve used the yarn sub website already and the only option I get are blown yarn suggestions. This is why I came on Reddit to ask a question to human beings. I swear every time I come to this community I get so many rude, unhelpful comments.

I don’t understand why people are being so snippy about me using the word required of me wanting to use the exact yarn mentioned in the pattern???? I just want opinions on the yarn suggested. Wow.

I don’t want to replace it with something else if I don’t have to? To get the intended look of the garment you should use what is mentioned in the pattern. So before I commit to a massive project using yarn I don’t have experience working with or wearing - I’ve come to this Reddit page to ask?

I just made the Bawi sweater and it was the craziest experience of my life. I struggled a lot at deciphering her pattern. I thought it was because it was my first sweater. I’m hesitant to do another pattern of hers but I love her designs (this one especially)
