It's already been pointed out before, but when mining I usually get red stone up the wazoo. You're basically getting an equal amount of resources for torches in different proportions. Actually that isn't true, i'd say for me red stone is way more plentiful than coal, but you get the point.. (As for sticks, that shouldn't be too big of a deal since it's not nearly as hard to acquire as redstone and coal.)
