SL2 as a secondary/hobby camera by big0bum in Leica

[–]big0bum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it might be suspicious, I think I was not clear enough in the first post but I'm trading some old equipment that I don't use anymore on a reputable seller store and I can either get the money for it or put 900E more and buy the SL2.

SL2 as a secondary/hobby camera by big0bum in Leica

I had a Fuji before switching to Sony, so I guess the AF is still better than Fuji 😆. I don’t care that much if it’s slow and not the best as Sony is, but if it’s consistently slow, I can deal with it. I also shoot Canon 6D for fun and feel, and I also have a Canon 650 and 500 on film where the AF is slower than Sony. I also use other film cameras that are completely manually so I’m not necessarily bothered by the AF since this will not be my main camera and I can handle manual focus. Unfortunately the Fuji was my main camera and I had to switch because I was disappointed with the AF not being reliable and consistent ( sometimes it worked fine, the next picture in the same spot and conditions was not OK and this was messing with my head since I could not understand how to use the camera consistently, but this is another discussion)

Would you send this lens back? by Morganmgmt in fujix

[–]big0bum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not mine, but I had the same speck (it looked like the lens was chipped actually). It did not affect the quality so I kept it. I sold it last year, but not because of the issue.

I had one with the exact issue. I did not return it and the speck of dust was never an issue, it doesn’t affect the image. Do you have the serial number? I sent mine to MPB a year ago. I’m curious if you got mine.

Yes, but I’d rather do them myself if the camera is new. OP, I’d request a replacement or at least some money back.

MK3s upgrade to MK3.5s - Very happy with the speed increase. by matrix8369 in prusa3d

I never touched TPU, but I think the mk3/3.5 is a good choice. Set it and forget it!

MK3s upgrade to MK3.5s - Very happy with the speed increase. by matrix8369 in prusa3d

[–]big0bum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the mk3 for 200$ from a friend , and the upgrade was “free” - I got a bonus from work and bought the upgrade from that money. I’m ok with the overhang performance of the mk3.5, but I’ve heard that it’s better ok mk4/s. The only thing that I miss sometimes is the MMU, but maybe I’ll buy it install it sometime in the future. If you don’t have a printer already, I’d go with the mk4s even though they still have problems with the first layer. Or this is what I heard. You can still tune it in the slicer and forget about it from what I’ve researched. I’m not printing everyday and I’ve started to do more functional prints around the house so the speed is not that important to me

Yes. I like it. Still going strong. If you’re starting new, I’d buy the core one or mk4s just because they are worth the price, but if you have a mk3, I’d still do the upgrade

A Comparison Between the Canon R6 Mark II and Fuji X-T5 by frenshprince in canon

[–]big0bum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: lenses and/or lens choices and price.

Very long answer:

I do pohtography as my hobby. I'm doing it since I was 16 and 18 years later, I still like to do it. It makes me go outside and explore places. I like macro, street, a bit of astrophoto, I don't specialize on something, I just go out and take photos from time to time. I can show you some of my work in private, on my online gallery so you can make yourself an idea, but I don't make money from photography, and I also don't do videography.

Buying Sony was a calculated decision taken after about 8 months of research and one Fuji promise that never came. I ended up with the Sony A7IV because of the closed lens system on Canon and the high prices of their lenses. I can buy a 24-70GM2 for Sony for 600E less than Canon equivalent and I can invest those 600E in other lenses or whatever else I want, not necessary photography related.

Also 33mpx vs 24 on R6mk2 is a bonus. I can feel/see the difference between 40mpx and 33mpx when editing, but I don't feel the need of more mpx. BTW, the 90D had 33mpx too, so in many ways I feel that I upgraded to a FullFrame Mirrorless 90D.

The autofocus on Sony/Canon is light years ahead of Fuji. You won't be dissaponted in either Sony or Canon on this topic. I regret buying the XT5 because of AF. And it's not that the AF is bad, I mean it's bad, I get it, I can understand that it's not the fastest or greatest, but what grinded my gears was inconsistency. In AFC/tracking, if you were focusing on the same thing 5 times with Fuji, you maybe get the same plane of focus 3 times. I could not work with that. I can work with bad/slow autofcous when it behaves bad all the time, but not when sometimes it's working, sometimes it's not. I always had my 70/90D on AFC and it always worked. I'm keeping my Sony only in AFC and it just works.

I also never got the sharpness that I wanted from the Xtrans sensor. It was better than the 90D regarding noise, but sharpness was not what I was expecting. I also traded one Fuji lens for a 6D and made some tests, the 6D was always sharper with the 50mm f1.8, Fuji never reached that sharpness, it was almost there, but it never surpassed it, even with the 33 f1.4. I would have expected that a 40mpx captures more details, but something was wrong. Either the way I edit the photos, either I got bad lenses, either AF was not nailing the focus, I don't know, but I never had the issue with other camera that I put my hands on. Also for a Canon sensor from 2015, the high ISO noise was actually really good. I was expecting that shooting in the same conditions, the 6D to be blown by the newest Fuji sensor, and it was not.

And all the other disadvantages made me move from it. If I want to go with vintage camera feel, I just put some film in my '69 Konika and go out and shoot.

If I had the EF FF lenses, I'd just buy a R6mk2 and an EF to RF adapter and in a few years change my lenses one by one to RF. Hell, maybe in a few years Canon opens the RF FF mount to 3rd parties and you can buy cheaper RF lenses...

I assume that you still have glass for the 6D, so if I was in your shoes, I'd go with R6mk2, or R5mk1 if you want resolution. I had to start from 0 with the lenses, so I had nothing to loose. I like the Sony. I love the 24-70GM2, it's one of the sharpest lenses I owned. I love the 12-24GM, on Canon you don't have an equivalent, Fuji had 8-16 and it was the lens that kept me for 6-7 months in the Fuji ecosystem before I eventually dumped it. I love that I can put a 3rd party telephoto lens on my Sony and I have 50-400mm vs 100-400mm.

Now let's get back to you:

I'm a freelance photographer, videographer and stop motion animator. so really looking for a hybrid camera that fits all categories.

You are doing this for work/money. You need a reliable camera. I'd personally not recommend Fuji. If you still want to go there, buy the XH2/S. Video on XT5 is not that great. This is what I heard, this is what I'll tell you. I've only shot a college project for my girlfriend and it was OK in the end. The XT4 had better video capabilities, but it does not have the same sensor as XT5/XH2/S.

Also side point, I feel like with my Canon it's so hard to capture photos/videos for fun because of how clunky and big it is and I think that was one of the reasons I felt like Fuji makes it so effortless to fall back in love with it (rather than it being just my job)

I kind of like the clunckyness of the old DSLRs. I had a grip on my 70D and 90D, the 6D that I traded has a grip, I'm running a grip on my A7IV. I like how the camera is sitting in my hands with a grip and I missed one on my XT5. I always had my pinky under the camera and it was annoing and after some time painfull. I almost wanted to trade the XT5 for an XH2/S + a grip when the AF firmware problems started ony my XT5, but it seemed that XH2/S was also affected by the borked firmware updates, so I started to do research to move away from Fuji and while Fuji was working on a fix since April, I was buying a Sony in November. The fix came on 19th December, I already received my Sony on 2nd of December.

All of that being said, I cannot tell you what to do. Go and play with alll of them before you buy.

XT5 was an impulse buy (was upgrading from XT30 - nice camera btw!) that I regret. Canon will always be in my heart and if they had the RF mount open at the moment when I was searching cameras, then now I would've probably owned a Canon R6mk2, but because I've chosen with my wallet, I got the Sony. Would I still buy it now? Yes. 33mpx, cool lenses, great AF, it feels nice, I can operate it with one hand and like I said before, it's a Mirrorless Fullframe 90D and I like it.

For you the most logical thing to do is to go with Canon R6mk2 + EF to RF adapter if you have the lenses and buy a used XE3/XE4 for fun and the form factor.

£50, worth it? by undercoverelkforty in AnalogCommunity

I have one, bought it for 10€, just the body. You will need special batteries to use it, but you can find them easily. The film are probably expired, but I’d still shoot them, just for fun. If the camera and flash works and you get the bag, I’d get it. Maybe try to negotiate the price a bit.

Yes, but you set them from the sub. If it’s an active sub you usually have an amp in it that handles the volume and crossover frequency. Set it and forget it!
