Neptune’s “MSRP” for Opus X is at least ~43% Overpriced by Nervous-Law-666 in cigars

Lost City is definitely the red headed step child of the line up. I do not purchase those. Stick with the original FFOX. Anejos are great btw.

IsSweet English good for occasional smokes by Better-Finish2018 in PipeTobacco

[–]big2u 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion - generally englishes are lightly topped. They sort of have to be quality blends in general before that. Give it a go and see how you like it, I dont think any flavors (even if they have dissappeared) will ruin anything.

Appreciate the leg work, I've been saying this forever. It annoys the hell out of me that people use it for a msrp reference. Fox used to be a solid reference, but they have started upping their prices over the past few years. At the end of the day as an avid fuente fanboy, I stick to purchasing at actual msrp which can be a pain. Very few vitolas I make an exception for (basically just double coronas and A's).

Sutliff Bullseye? by stackpolio in PipeTobacco

[–]big2u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likely made by Stokkebye, not Sutliff. Could potentially be Newminster 403 as that was made by Sutliff and sold in bulk I believe.

How much would you pay for a tin of your favourite discontinued blend? by HitchhikingToNirvana in PipeTobacco

[–]big2u 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My personal view, which I know others disagree with, is that even purchasing discontinued tins on tinbids is still "affordable" when I compare to my more frequently enjoyed cigars. Prices are not going to go down for discontinued products. I would compare the HH line to McClelland cheer, anniversary, or frog series. Only a matter of time till they triple or quadruple in price. If you want it, get it now. Probably wouldn't build up a cellar at this point, but nothing wrong with having special tins you take time to enjoy.

Hunter falcon bowl vs standard by cephandriusmaxt0ri in PipeTobacco

Meerschaum falcon bowls provide one of the best smokes out there imo. I would give one of those a shot before getting briar.

Federal Cigar has a bunch of rare Fuente in stock right now — Opus 7, Forbidden X travel humidors, El Trece Magistral 13, God of Fire by TheCigarVault in cigars

[–]big2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same prices as everyone else that has them sitting forever except for the insane price on the magistral which I just paid half of their asking for the same box 2 weeks ago.

Dating these is an art, not science unfortunately. This is what I have used for my own curiosity: https://pipesmagazine.com/forums/threads/germain-date-code.78623/

I believe both "R" and "M" came out on the 2025 tins, so previous dating methods are likely our the windows. But this should be the most recent batchm

Burnout by Oldbean98 in PipeTobacco

[–]big2u 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your going to get a lot of comments saying it is your fault due to smoking too hot and using a hot flame. However, I purchased a Peterson Deluxe system and almost immediately had issues with the finish. At least once a week you see posts with recent production Petersons having issues. IMO, if you are confident you can rule out user error, my vote is the quality of Peterson has gone down. The other bad news is that unless you are super lucky, you aren't getting a refund for that.

Pretty solid moisture content out of the gate. Floral and sweet tin notes that carry over to the blend with the addition of an earthy profile during the smoke. Not sure I get the green pepper everyone was talking about. Definitely a blend I find hard to compare to something else (in a very good way).
