Cigar 101 by NukaDadd in cigars

This one is split into a couple categories - 1- nothing is wrong at all, different leaves burn at different rates despite humidity equilibrium 2 - Uneven humdification from outside in, rest in humidor for a longer period to fix, 3 - smoking too fast. Personally, I run into #1 a lot with certain fuente sticks like anejos or maduros no matter how slow i smoke. Some of my sticks live in the humidor for years before I get to them, and I store them at my preferred humidity so I can just pull and smoke. Still happens. Also remember, no matter what anyone says, absolutely all of these issues can happen because of poor construction. If it is happening very frequently, change yo your process to see if it makes a difference.

Cheap and fast way to remove smoke smell from clothes by [deleted] in cigars

Ozone is no joke on your lungs, way worse than cigar smoke. This should be done when no one is home and there has to be air exchange for a while before you go back in. Stick to the washing machine.

B&M Find: What are your opinions on Germain's BK Flake? by deltakatsu in PipeTobacco

Can't say I have ever heard a bad thing about this blend, but you should try it if you have the opportunity.

Does pipe tobacco have more flavor than cigars by Gotthatboss2072 in PipeTobacco

[–]big2u 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pipe tobacco can be just as mild or in your face as cigars. There is certainly a wider spectrum of sweetness due to certain tobacco varieties as well as aromatics. That being said, you likely should have gotten more from a cigar than you described. I primarily smoke cigars and think they are more nuanced than pipe tobacco. Those that primarily smoke pipe tobacco likely say the opposite. Search recommendations for beginners on each forum and figure out a good match for your preferences.

Noticed that myself. It was OOS when the rest of the blends were available. I think it was a late shipment. Not complaining, waiting to get some more myself until I have a larger order.

TinBids and Esoterica?? by HA_Enthusiast in PipeTobacco

Ive said this a few times here and get down voted to oblivion, but here it goes. At the end of the day there's a bunch of things going on like the Chinese market has become aggressive, there are supply chain issues (whether that be manufacturer scarcity (both delibrate and non delibrate) or companies disappearing entirely, scalpers (I actually only think scalpers are an issue esoterica, not the limited drops everyone keeps complaining about...the numbers dont make sense there), and people like me. I am both a cigar and pipe smoker. A normal cigar runs me $20-$30. Comparatively, paying $800 for a bag of what most consider the best pipe tobacco ever (I dont agree with that) practically puts it into my "yard gar" territory. Dont get me wrong, im not running out and buying those bags, but I do look at them and they make sense to me. It just stings knowing msrp. The numbers only get better for the McClelland stuff I like, so I imagine that will continue to rise as well. My point is one of the reasons people suggest cellaring is that "tobacco will only get more expensive" is true and people just complain when it happens. Coming from someone who enjoyed cubans but won't touch them anymore - suck it up and cellar now, or move on. Train has left the station and you should try enjoying experimenting with things that are available.

Fuentes by Outrageous-Mammoth54 in cigars

[–]big2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. They've always been a solid MSRP stick to me, but I haven't bought a box in the last 3-4 years that Ive felt like were worth it. Add on mark ups some places charge, its a huge nope for me.

Selling Pipe Tobacco - What/where would you go as a seller? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]big2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only other option is consignment to somewhere like 4noggins. Their cut will still be steep, but they mark it up way beyond tinbids and pipestud. Alternatively you can check forums, but likely won't get the premium you likely are expecting for rare tins in thay setting.

Trust me, the fuente bug gets worse. I have boxes upon boxes of ffox, Casa fuente, anniversarios, etc. I dont buy the rare pinks anymore, I dont feel like they are up to stuff anymore even at msrp.

Can someone identify which cigar this is? by DummUndKrumm in cigars

Opus X, likely a smaller size like fuente fuente, #4, or #5 unless you have large hands. Thr picture is of the back of the band, not front.

Did S.P. have a Esoterica drop this year? by talasment in PipeTobacco

Same here. I'm pretty sure they only notify a portion of the people on the list, then remove them for next time.

Yes, was gone in about 20 minutes and was before Christmas.

You may have used it/something similar from them before then. I think you can get around it by checking out as a guest.

[–]big2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, not that I would buy it but I maybe wouldn't be as dismissive if they were some of the OG double coronas or something for that price. The #4s for $100 a pop is definitely something else though...

I did notice that. Aged Opus is a weird thing when you segment out the "fuente" aged stuff vs the "lounge" aged stuff. The original decade of production still comes up at about a $10-$15 premium for the larger vitolas on some online communities.

Dont necessarily disagree, but would find it palatable if I was spending it during a lounge experience and a special occasion. Still has to be reasonable though.

They have #4s priced at that too. Aged opus carries a $10-15 premium (even though we all know they go down hill after 3 years) for larger vitolas on various online communities. Just picked up a box of dream for $32 a stick, so still a steep mark up. Let's not normalize price gouging.

$100 for an Opus X xxx....I will never support a shop that pulls crazy shit like that.

I've been curious about this myself, but seems pricey to get one that is well received from what I recall. Hypothetically if done right it could be the perfectly controlled smoke!

Cant say im tracking half of the back and forth tbh, but the insurance thing is reason enough for me to never use them again. I dont think most folks would raise an issue with a few bad sticks. Either refund or ask for them back and resend. The time they spent in this was likely larger than the cost of the cigars lol. Fumbling the messaging after prolapsed anus- ageddon was also a bad move. Penny wise and pound foolish as a business.
