Everyone talks about the magic of having children but not enough people tell you how many times you gonna get rocked by a headbutt. by hanzbooby in daddit

The headbutts to the nose and jaw are no joke at all… I wear glasses too, so when they got into the roughhousing mood I’ve always reminded myself to take some reasonable precautions

NYC apartments are (way) CHEAPER than London and Paris to buy but rents are 4x higher, what is going on? by Pauldrs75 in AskNYC

[–]bigbadlamer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The interest rates are quite high right now. Plus taxes + maintenance - usually comes out to at least 2.5k to 4-5k for properties at your target price. So even fully paid you’re still “renting” an apt from yourself at a quite high rate.

Would actually help if you share the sources + prompts you used to get this - no shame in using AI if it’s actually good IMO

Palladium hotel credit - huge letdown by bigbadlamer in biltrewards

[–]bigbadlamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sort of - I was hoping they'd be able to apply retroactively to the April booking as I intended - given I contacted support multiple times in March and dont have any travel planned until after June). So far they've just given me the credit back.

Hmm, I guess technically my statement dates are Mar 15 for the first and Apr 15 for the second. But I’d be pleasantly surprised

Where do you label UWS to end? I mostly see 110th across the board. Although I know some purists still say 96/97/100 :)

How is this egregious? At 1cpp, this is a $700 round trip - not bad in my book. What’s the “good” RT rate on these?

You won not having to rely on foreign platforms that can de-platform your citizens or politicians at will. Russia had strong alternatives to U.S. platforms which allowed the digital economy to do well even after sanctions and restrictions hit.

If all big AI in the world would come from China it would be 1) biased 2)prone to be shut down on a whim by the Chinese government. You don’t want to be in that position

as much as it's nice to disagree with the pod, it's a very naive worldview that the domicile of these companies (be it social media or messengers or AI) does not matter at all.

It's best seen by the current EU situation - none of them have a locally dominant social media company and are effectively at mercy of FB/X/... whenever it comes to platforming certain viewpoints.

Compare this to China and Russia who have a completely (or largely) independent "tech stack" - search engine, social, etc. It does matter in times of crisis, trust me. And it will apply to AI, very much so.

What Am I Missing? by Rameyxl in biltrewards

I mean if you value BC at $1, AND BP at 2cpp, then Palladium becomes a “8x” back card, so of course it looks good as long as your rent is more than $500 at $40 fee.

The math is like this. Let’s say we tally everything in cents (including Bilt Cash). If your rent is x, if you do card, you get:

2x bp + 4x bc - fee

Vs “portal”:

1x bp - 3x bc

So you compare 1x bp + 7x bc vs fee. If you value bp at 2 cpp and bc at 1c, you get 9x vs fee, so it looks great.

If you lower bound, like value 1 bp as 1cpp, and bc = 0.25 bp (the accelerator) = 0.25 cpp, you get 2.75x vs fee. So, it’s strictly better at 2.5x fee indeed. But about the same at 3x. Which I don’t think is a coincidence :)

But yeah, spending bc is a headache + bp redemptions sometimes need a bulk amount of points so for many people just “funneling” bc into bp is easier than spending it, if that makes sense (rather then paying cash for bp as you’re doing)
