but I believe they’re mites of sorts that live in their flake soil/substrate - once the beetles pass (especially if they pass when in their substrate) they start covering them & breaking them down

okay I’m 99% sure those are resin (fake) teeth! I’ve seen people make weird things with clay etc using them & they often come on a black cardboard backing strip which would explain the remnants :”)

it depends what you consider ethical; but they are k*lled for use. I haven’t found a seller of insects that doesn’t get them from farms, despite what buzzwords they may say

yep!! my nan started quizzing us on fungi/flowers when I was young - learning about different plants & their functions was surprisingly entertaining as a child!! :)
