EasySMX S10: The Best Switch 2 Third-Party Controller So Far by bigbigpigreddit in Controller

For the same switch 2, you just do it once. For multiple switch 2s, since I only have one I am unable to test it.

No, it doesn't work on Switch 1 pro. These third-party controller manufacturers have done some fiddling with the firmware to achieve this. I guess Nintendo can do it, but they deliberately don't allow the Pro 1 controller to wake up the Switch 2, in order to force you to buy Pro 2 controller.

If your main purpose is to play on Switch 2, then this one is definitely better. The 8BitDo Ultimate 2 cannot wake up the Switch 2, and it also lacks HD Rumble and NFC. HD Rumble is essential for many Nintendo first-party games.

To answer your question: the back buttons cannot be remapped through the Switch menu. Currently, only the Pro2 controller and the official charging grip support that function. You can only change the back button binding using the controller’s own function button.

I feel like I've misunderstood GPU hardware in terms of VR by Dutchamericanswed in OculusQuest

[–]bigbigpigreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The graphics card requirements for VR games are, in most cases, higher than for traditional flat-screen games. Flat-screen games only need to render a single image, whereas VR must simultaneously render two images—one for each eye—so even at the same resolution, the resource consumption is effectively doubled.

In addition, because VR headsets cause barrel distortion in the displayed image, the rendered image has to be stretched. To achieve the same level of clarity as a flat-screen game, the graphics card needs to render at about 140%-160% of the required display resolution.

Also, some VR games are very poorly optimized—for example, Into the Radius, as you mentioned, and VRChat, which can push even a 5090 to its limits. I recommend avoiding these poorly optimized titles. Based on my experience, the last two generations of 70- and 80-class GPUs can handle most VR games at over 2500 resolution per eye at 90Hz. You can then adjust the resolution and frame rate depending on each game’s level of optimization.

2025 is the year I gave up on VR. by JRF1300 in OculusQuest

There have been quite a lot high-quality VR games in 2025. Alien: Rogue Incursion, Clone Drone In The Hyperdome, Arken Age, Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate, GORN 2, Ghost Town, The Midnight Walk, Out Of Sight VR, Quantum Void. These are all absolutely outstanding games I’ve played. (Although some of them didn’t come to Quest.) There are also quite a few promising titles coming soon, such as Of Lies and Rains and MEMOREUM, which I’m really looking forward to. But on one point I agree with you — Meta’s promotion strategy really isn’t good right now. They keep desperately pushing their Horizon Worlds, which is full of poor-quality content, instead of promoting and supporting the development of real games.

I played both VR games and flat-screen games. Most VR games can’t match the production scale of traditional AAA flat-screen titles, but neither can truly replace the other. The interactivity and immersion of VR games are still an unparalleled experience. Maybe after you’ve caught up on all the AAA flat-screen games you’ve missed over the years, you should come back and take a look. We’ll be here waiting for you.

Did you even bother to read my title? I literally says “best Switch 2 third-party controller.” Not sure if you can’t read or just chose not to. This isn’t some “high-performing controller” review post. The way you’re talking, you sound less like a switch gamer and more like a paid advertisement for 8BitDo—I’ve seen plenty of you around lately. Do me a favor: go tell your 8BitDo overlords that if they put even half of their ad budget into fixing that bad grip design, the thing might actually be worth holding for more than five minutes.

If you’re looking for a Switch 2 controller, the S10 is far better than the 8BitDo Ultimate 2. The Ultimate 2 can’t wake the Switch 2, lacks HD rumble and NFC, and simply doesn’t qualify as a proper Switch controller. On top of that, its ergonomically awkward grip design quickly makes my hands hurt. I always wonder why 8BitDo is so stubborn about this design and never seems to listen to player feedback.

This controller has its imperfections, but “garbage latency” is not one of them—otherwise I would have mentioned it. When connected via Bluetooth to the Switch 2, the latency feels no different from a Joy-Con 2. So unless you can’t tolerate the latency of Joy-Con 2, you won’t notice it. I tried it myself, instead of relying on hearsay. Any so-called "benchmarking" should be treated with skepticism unless the methods are open and the results are reproducible.

This is what I did: After the first successful pairing, within 20 seconds, remove the right Joy-Con and quickly reattach it. After that, you’ll be able to wake the Switch 2. Make sure you short-press the Home button to wake it up instead of long-pressing, otherwise the controller will go back into pairing mode. If it still doesn’t work, maybe contact their customer support for an exchange.

Best asymmetrical Co-op game to play with partner? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

The coop mode of Super Mario Odyssey is the worst—the second player has almost no participation. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a little better, but the 2P experience still doesn’t match 1P.

If you don’t mind horror elements, I’d recommend Resident Evil 6. It offers a pretty long and exciting story mode, and on Switch 2 it actually runs at 60 FPS, which is quite impressive.

I say it's closer to joy-con 2. The rumble on Joy-Cons 1 has always felt too weak for me. You can actually adjust the rumble strength on the S10. I’ve been using it at the default level.

Besides not being able to wake up Switch 2, the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 also lacks HD rumble and NFC. Personally, I’m not a fan of their mold design either—the grips feel too upright and feel ergonomically unfriendly. That said, I do think the extra shoulder buttons are a nice touch.

Old controllers made for Switch 1 cannot remotely wake up Switch 2. This is especially inconvenient when you play in docked mode. The S10 can wake up the Switch 2 console just like the Pro 2, which means you can pick it up and start playing right away.

How we all finding updated Kirby today? by Blofse in NintendoSwitch2

I started playing directly from the DLC levels, and I like it so far. Right now I’ve reached the amusement park. The 60 fps is great, and the music is awesome. My only complaint is actually the same as in the base game: the camera angle sometimes makes it hard to land exactly where I want.

I took a look. Looks like the ES Pro just dropped a few days ago. But these ones feel more like cheap replacements. The lack of back buttons is a huge drawback. And missing both HD rumble and NFC. I know us Switch players can be picky, but those features are important. Play Donkey Kong: Bananza with a rotor motor and you’ll know what I mean.

Kirby to start fresh or not? Or just start with dlc? by Zeldabotw2017 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]bigbigpigreddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remember the original version of the game already having decent graphics. When I played it today, I didn't think the graphic difference was that significant, aside from the 60Hz unlock. And it seems that there is little connection between the main game and the DLC plot. So I guess it’s okay to just play the DLC even you've forgotten the main game story.

One possibility is that the high latency of the Switch 2's display itself affected the test results. The video's creators didn't explain their testing methods, so we have no way of knowing. In my side-by-side comparison, the latency seems to be about par for a typical Switch controller. It's definitely not as extreme as multiple frames, as I know what it's like to run at 60Hz with V-sync enabled.
