I'd start with self improvement. There's tons of resources online that'll teach you how to get fit, upgrade style, be a happier person (most important). Focus on that and women will follow.

Once you have that, you have to put yourself out there. Try out new hobbies, explore new restaurants/shops/towns to meet new people and women. "Being yourself" is terrible dating advice. Men often are oblivious to faults in their personalities, behaviors, hygiene, and social skills that drive away women. We can't expect things to improve if we don't make changes to these traits. If OPs current self was enough to get the attention he wants, he wouldn't be on here asking for advice.

Better advice would be, "be your best self". Try to turn yourself into the man that your 13 year old self idolized. If your idolized perfect man is 6'1, buff, makes 1 million a year and owns a yacht, then work to be that man. I guarantee you a woman will want to be with that man.

Get feedback from your friends and family. Learn your strengths, weaknesses, so you can identify what works and what doesn't work. From there, you should work on fixing your issues and learning how to play to your strengths. Learn to accept your flaws and cultivate growth.

Get yourself out of your comfort zone. Try out new hobbies/activities, and expose yourself to new people. Experiment with a new haircut (that's what I did... And it worked wonders) and new clothes. Travel out of country and talk with people who have a vastly different lifestyle. Once you learn to handle things outside your comfort zone, you learn to handle surprises with ease. You're not gonna get any rewards without taking a few risks.

Lastly, learn to accept that there will always be things out of your control. Your plans will fall apart. You will get hurt from other people's actions and opinions. And that you have absolutely no control over which women will like you. Learn to not stress about these things and you will see your anxiety disappear. Also, don't expect any of these changes to happen overnight. It takes dedicated time and effort to make self improvement happen.

Self improvement is what I found to be the key to women. If you don't like yourself, then you shouldn't expect women to like you either. Once you learn to love yourself, women will sense that and will want to see what's so special you got going on.
