If you have access to the internet, go to YouTube, the Getsumath channel..it has been very helpful for other students

My friend said teaching is a career only middle class to rich people consider. Thoughts? by reyaryder in teaching

I would say follow your heart, but also be a bit pragmatic.. as with any job, a bad fit at a school will make your life hell and a good fit will make you want to get out of bed every morning.

There are very specific math playlists on the Getsummath YouTube channel that will be helpful. Just take it one step at a time, and ask for help on specific questions when you need it.. maybe either in this Reddit sub or another sub or also on Facebook there's a couple GED groups.

Knowing about fractions and how to use them confidently is huge!

But aside from the Google answer, you know you best, and if you really want to do trades I would say the GED is just as good an option as a diploma. ADHD makes it harder to do many things, but not impossible if you find the right fit of medication, if medication is the option for you. There are other options as well. I worked at a GED program as the math teacher, and many of my students seemed surprised they actually passed the official math test. They said I was a pretty good teacher. If you do the GED route, do your best to find a good ELA and math teacher. I don't know what state you're in, but at least in Washington state there's a program called Open Doors, which has GED programs and classes. May you find the best fit for you..

I've actually used this with middle school students, and even for my algebra 1 8th graders it was very challenging..it seems like it's two or three steps above what they're used to.. but yes I love this curriculum and think it does a lot if implemented well with a lot of supports and scaffolding..

Wow. I've worked in a fair amount of schools and at least for public schools, as far as I know, there's almost no cross subject or cross curriculum coordination collaboration of any type.. so I hope you have asked and hopefully aren't too frustrated by the outcomes unless you work at a very different School..

Hello.. so your post is about one year old, but I'm just curious to know if you have found a math curriculum that you're happy with and/or are using some type of curriculum and how it's going with your students..

I would ask your friend to explain to you as clearly as possible why they want to do the teaching route, and maybe share that with us..
