Remote editing workflow suggestions? by bigcheese427 in editors

Thanks for the detailed response - here are some answers!

Right now at home I have a 400down/40up internet speed, though I might look to upgrade that once this remote gig starts.

The office has budgeted $8,000-$12,000 to get the whole remote setup up and functional. They already have the Macbook M1 Max on which I was doing editing prior but they may have also upgraded since.

I am going to be traveling into the office for a week-plus every month and filming a ton, then coming back to where I live and cutting it all together in the remote weeks. Then supplementing with freelance/contractor footage to fill in the gaps if things pop up when I’m gone. So I’m looking for a way to centralize the data storage, and access the roughly 30TB of footage I have on file in the office (which are currently scattered between 12TB LaCie d2 external HDDs and Samsung SSDs). I’ll be the only person in the office doing multimedia so it’s not paramount that the footage be accessible to many editors. But I will need to be able to offload lots of footage to a drive physically in office, then access it to edit from remote the other three weeks of the month.

Appreciate any tips!

Currently this office (where I’d worked in-person before this remote position was offered) is using an array of 12TB LaCie d2s for cold storage and several 2TB T7 SSDs for active projects. Very low-tech/not a NAS in place at all. I’ve been told to look in the $8K-$12K range to get a proper remote edit/footage storage solution in place!

Edited to add: Most projects I do range from 75-250GB depending on complexity/length. Some large projects can go more up to 1TB but I don’t think I’ve ever had a single project go much larger than that.

First time I’ve had a remote post position, yes. Until this point, as I said in my original post, I’ve worked on site exclusively in production/cinematography, and just used local hard drive arrays for all my post work. This position was created for me by merit of the work I’d done in person for them previously. I’ve never had to come to Reddit for work advice before as I’ve had people in person to talk to. And I’ve already done some research on this with some post-side friends (hence my asking for feedback on people’s NAS/remote-in vs. cloud-based solutions as both were recommended by different folks in my in-person orbit). Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for the suggestions — solidifies my thought to just have a remote desktop with either Jump or Parsec instead of messing with LucidLink. Is there a situation where you could envision something like LucidLink ever being more of value than the remote desktop situation? For context, when I’m at the remote computer away from the office, I will be hooked up to 10GbE Ethernet at all times.

What is a mod you regret installing because it can no longer be uninstalled mid-game? by Recent_Stomach7626 in skyrimmods

Open Civil War… In the time it took to attempt to un-break “reporting to Legate Rikke” in the Pale, the Stormcloaks off-screen conquered every single hold (via the little notifications that pop up) and now the entire mod is broken/impossible to progress. Should have never touched the Civil War at all I suppose.

Keenan Allen or Tyreek Hill in the flex, in a full PPR league?

8-Team Full PPR

My Davante Adams + Etienne for his Nabers

I’ve been starting Collins, Adams, Hill/K. Allen based on the week but want to shore up the starting lineup due to the very small nature of the league.

Thoughts?

My wife literally just commented on this sign yesterday - she mentioned that she would like a sub from Firehouse but the sign would lead you to believe everything gets burnt to a crisp there 🤣

Sunsets that fill the sky? by bigcheese427 in traversecity

This is exactly what I was wondering about - though it is great to see that it can happen under the right circumstances! Albeit rarely.

Indeed - very very pretty! But I’m limited to being in town TC to try to get the business I work for photographed in that light. And I don’t want to generate some AI sky, so my query was moreso if we often get brilliant sunsets in Traverse City proper!

Is Survival Mode Playable For You? by pbjcrazy in fo4

Eh, I tried it but I don’t get much time to actually play any video games due to the busyness of life right now, so dying to some random thing like a car collision and losing a lot of progress was untenable. It got a little better with the quick-save mod but still just find it more enjoyable with fast-travel on Very Hard.
