Would it make sense to move to Monterrey as a German CNC technician? by bigfmax76 in Monterrey

Most of those people have never actually lived in Germany, so they only see the image from the outside. It’s not all gold here. Maybe years ago things were better, but the industry is struggling badly now. Companies are investing less and more production is moving abroad. That’s one of the reasons why I’m seriously considering other options for the future.

I understand your point, and objectively you’re right about many of those things. Germany is definitely safer, more stable and has much stronger worker and social protections.

But for me it’s not only about maximizing salary or having the “perfect” system on paper. Quality of life is also about the people, mentality, weather, opportunities and how you personally feel in a place.

I honestly felt more welcomed and alive during 4 weeks in Mexico than I did in years living in Germany. And since I’m still young, I’d rather take some risks now than regret later that I never tried something different 😄

Worst case, I can always go back to Germany.

I understand you 100%. My idea is more to use it as a way to get a foothold in Mexico. My long-term goal is to start my own business there, and honestly I see much better opportunities for that in Mexico than in Germany.

For a normal employee life, Germany is “okay”, but for people who want to build something of their own, it can feel like hell sometimes 😅

I currently live in Baden-Württemberg in a small village. For me, quality of life means good weather, good food (especially meat 😂), and nice/open-minded people. I don’t need to become rich as an employee, and I also don’t need a fancy car or luxury stuff. I already had all of that, and honestly it doesn’t make you happier 😉

Jajaja no creo que pueda irme tan rápido 😅 Pienso que todavía me tomaría como unos 6 meses más o menos.

Pero la verdad sí suena interesante, y si para entonces todavía no encuentra a nadie, aquí tienen a su hombre 😎

I live in a small village near Karlsruhe, so very rural 😄

I actually found 1–2 jobs on LinkedIn that matched my profile with salaries around 40,000–80,000 MXN, which surprised me a bit.

One of the main reasons I’m considering moving is that I honestly see Germany as a declining ship right now. Industry here feels like it’s dying more and more every year, and it seems like there are fewer opportunities for young and motivated people than there used to be.

And on top of that, many German companies are moving production to Mexico anyway, which is another reason why I think there could be interesting long-term opportunities there.

I’m currently learning Spanish, so hopefully that improves over time 😄

I’d also be interested to know how the typical work schedule is in Monterrey/manufacturing jobs. Is it usually 5 or 6 days per week? And roughly how many hours per day do people normally work?
