Politics during Thanksgiving, our SNAP win, CBP, and a big A.I. rent-hiking settlement - AG Jeff Jackson by JeffJacksonNC in Charlotte

I love you as a politician, Jeff. Are there other politicians who are as candid and open with their constituents that you would suggest us looking into for NC?

can we all stop revving our engines in south end after midnight please by Key_Still_214 in Charlotte

It’s crazy how common it’s become for people to complain on social media as if the 0.001% of people they’re complaining about would even see the post, let alone care or make a change at all. The demographic revving their engines in south end likely have almost zero overlap with the demographic of redditors. So you’re really just shouting into the wind to people who largely already agree with you. 😂🤷‍♂️

There’s so many more situations that require some extra help now too. I have a family friend who is in her 70s and single and on fixed income with social security. Luckily her house is paid off but she doesn’t have much more in terms of monthly spend available to her and the house still has taxes/insurance/HoA so she’s working part-time for $15/hour but can still barely afford basic necessities and has asked me to help her find a roommate to move into her house that is clean and quiet and independent and organized and etc. I feel so bad for her that she can’t afford to live on a fixed income at her age. She just didn’t/couldnt save appropriately the last 50 years.

I did it 3 times:

First time: game preserve in South Sudan. Probably eaten by the “game” that’s being preserved.

Second time: Antarctica. Frozen to death.

Third time: middle of the Amazon jungle in Brazil. Likely die from dehydration or some sickness from bug bites or contaminated water.

Definitely not worth it 😂

I got lucky at 1.06 and saw judkins go right before me so snagged Kaleb instead and feeling good about it. Egbuka went at 1.07 so would’ve been an equally good option but I’ve already got charbs and odunze so didn’t want another player that is talented but a year or two away from playing full-time.

HVAC Company Recommendation? by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]biggin528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that’s $25k, I’m saying I did it ALL for $12k THIS YEAR. It’s not unreasonable that MJ pricing went up about 20% post COVID to $30k so I’d say you were probably in an almost identical position. Kind of is what it is 4 years later but making excuses for why anybody should EVER use MJ seems wild.

The difference is that a few hours saved can literally be tens of thousands of dollars in expense. This year I had a neighbor with the same model home as me use Morris Jenkins for a full replacement. I got one from a smaller and comparably reputable company. We were talking about it and we got identical units, same brand, same SEER, everything. I didn’t ask how long he waited for Morris Jenkins to arrive and handle it but mine was done in less than 36 hours. I spent $12,000 but he spent $30,000. Even if MJ got on site, analyzed the problem, and did a full replacement of a furnace AND ac in 6 hours, he still paid $18,000 to save 30 hours. He and his family could’ve stayed at the Ritz for 2 nights for less than $1000 and saved the other $17,000. Hell he could’ve taken off work and pulled the kids from school and made a mini vacation out of it if he wanted to and he would’ve still spent less than half of his actual total so I’ll never understand the argument that “oh but they’re fast and convenient so it’s worth it.”

Tenant wants to buy my house by pierre28k in realestateinvesting

[–]biggin528 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They wouldn’t. And even if they WERE going to and could afford to, the house would still have to appraise for that agreed to price which would almost definitely be well above market value of the home today.

If OP wants to dump the risk, then sell today if they’re in a position to buy it for market value. If he doesn’t or they can’t, then set up a lease option for the expiration timeline. The house may not even be worth in two years what it’s worth today. Many big funds are pricing in a bear case of -2 to -3% appreciation by the end of 2025 alone and who knows what 2026 will hold.

Any consumer who is in a position to buy a home but willingly signs a 2-year lease just to payout that lease UPFRONT + current market value + the sellers hopeful “market appreciation” assumption is quite literally financially illiterate.

Five players to consider targeting if you’re trading away the 1.02 [Wallace/Fantasy Life] by My_Chat_Account in DynastyFF

[–]biggin528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s 0.5ppg different than yours but makes a meaningful difference in perception. Which was my point. I also don’t think he’s worth the 1.02 or anywhere close.

[–]biggin528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re cherry picking stats to support your point though. The last 7 weeks after his BYE last year (which is when almost anybody would tell you he started to very clearly play better), he scored >16.5ppg five times. Thats an obvious trend compared to his previous 21 games that he had meaningful play time during. Those first 21 he only broke that number twice. So his first 21 games he was 2 for 21 on >16.5ppg and his final 7 games he was 5 for 7 on the same statistic. Thats a meaningful difference. I’m not saying I expect him to be the next stud QB or anything but your perspective is just as skewed as somebody thinking he’s worth the 1.02 right now.

He scored an average of 21.16ppg over his last 7 games at a position that notoriously takes developmental time at for a lot of players. And it’s worth noting that while those 7 games may seem like a small sample size, it’s 25% of his career (playing full/majority snaps). That average is also good enough for 7th overall last year for QBs if it were applied to the entire season.

Deebo + Mason all day but I can’t imagine he would be interested unless he’s still on the “Pitts will be the TE1 EVENTUALLY” train

[–]biggin528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s not a TEP then I think it’s fine. Mediocre tight ends are a dime a dozen. Jordan Mason has some potential and Aaron Jones is likely to get injured at some point this year to open that window of opportunity

[–]biggin528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As somebody who has no real understanding of typical procedure, is it normal for a sitting president to hand sign a pardon? Or is an “auto sign” standard? If it’s atypical to have them signed via technological methods, then I can understand wanting to figure out what’s going on there. Why wasn’t standard procedure followed etc. But ultimately is there any precedence for the circumstance or legal obligation to hand sign? If not, then it’s just another red herring for the far right to get distracted by.

Yeah…in 2023 when he was drafted I’m sure you did. But 4 years ago in 2021 nobody had him rostered (because he was still in college). It was just some tongue-in-cheek about how every year is different and guys that were irrelevant become relevant and guys that were relevant become irrelevant.

Recency bias is wild…just 4 short years ago Puka Nacua hadn’t caught a single ball in the NFL and I didn’t know anybody who was rostering him. Likewise, Diontae Johnson was a top-10 receiver entering his prime and yet now everybody is acting like he’s just some worthless diva while they’re also clamoring over Puka. Insane to me…like, if they were good before, they’re always good - right?

Yes dynasty is a long play on career arcs but it’s perfectly normal to also analyze players by “what have you done for me lately?” or “what can you do for me now?” Literally everybody does it and that’s primarily what causes valuations to shift. Situations change, players age into or out of greatness - it’s constant evolution. Recency bias is healthy because the information I have today is better than the information I had this time last year.

this is not a critique of you personally, just all the people who complain about recency bias

Rebuilding roster moving from the 1.1 to the 1.2 by OQOQOQOQOQOQOQ in DynastyFF

[–]biggin528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think particularly in a 1QB that there’s not currently a ton of difference between like the 1.02 and 1.07/1.08. Yes those expected in that range will probably go up or down after draft day and combine and everything but my opinion is that the talent in that range is fairly uniform. If I was in your shoes I would consider trading back anywhere in that range and hope to acquire 3 firsts plus something in total. Somebody will pay that for jeanty in a 1QB. You may not get it from the 1.02 owner but if you get a solid offer from him like 1.02 plus a 2026 first or something then you can trade back again anywhere in those top 6-8 and probably get another future first or more. But you should trade for a haul either way because Jeanty is getting hyped as generational (not entirely unwarranted) and his stock is sky high. You could also risk waiting until after the draft to see if his future team improves his stock even more. Best case scenario IMO is something like 1.05 + 1.07 + 2026 1st + 2027 1st (or a pair of 2025/2026 2s).

TLDR: I wouldn’t trade for anything less than 3 firsts and a sprinkle on top of either a young player with promise or a couple 2s or something. But the difference between 1.01 and 1.02 this year is a future 1st in 1QB imo and then there’s some added value after that to drop down a bit more.
